Question about Flat Panel Televisions
After a power surge during a storm yesterday, and although connected to a high end surge protector, the right side of my Plasma TV screen is completely blacked out. Good Audio and beautiful picture on the left side, but 50% of screen is completely black! TV is 9 months old, never a problem before yesterday.
SOURCE: water and a plasma tv
I am sure that there is damage to any of the boards that got wet, or had residue from being wet. The voltages in these sets are fairly high, and thus there is damage. Sometimes a damaged board can cause damage on other boards that are connected to it.
Before writing off the set, give it to the factory service rep just in case it may only be a failed board that is not terribly expensive.
If you had a flood and you have house insurance, find out if you are covered. In this case, let the insurance company deal with the set.

You have experienced a plasma eruption. The fix for this may easily surpass the value of the unit - sorry to hear that.

Mainboard damaged and need to be replaced, try EBAY for a general picture of prices but you will need your product code wich is located in the back of the TV next to serial number.
