Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Computer hangs I have an old pentium 4 2.8Ghz with a GeForce4 MX 4000 64mb video card and 1gb RAM, my pc is running on windows xp service pack 3...when i play a game like ragnarok after a few minutes into the game my screen just freezes up, i cant move my mouse and ctrl+alt+del doesnt work either. i tried leaving it that way and eventually my screen (monitor) would just shut off, go black (more like in standby mode because the light beside the power switch keeps blinking). sometimes it would happen while i'm surfing the net and have more than 2 sites open at a time. the ram is brand new but the video card is old, this problem also happened with my previous video card which was a GeForce FX5200 128mb. cooling is okay, i have a strong fan faced directly to the whole open side of the tower..and by the way when you touch the casing of the tower there's a little ground, a little electric shock, but not that strong...please give me some advice as to what's causing the problem and what part should i replace?

Hi there,
there are several factors we can considered on hanging up and black screen appearing, although common problem here is video card and connection, youve got a fine processor of 2.8ghs,1ghs ram,is great fine but your 64mb video card is real problem, also w/128mb vgc.try to install a 512 mb video card agp,the latest gaming on online internet give you problem w/your 64mb and 128mb,on line rpg gaming required a 1ghz ram,512mb video card and more or less of 3 ghz processor, have check the system requirement f gaming before you install.have a nice day, rate my fix, thank's a lot

Is this going to be surfice?

Yup this used pc has a superior processor running at 2.8 Ghz, more ram, and a better video card. Also windows 7 is a 64 bit system and it runs better even on slower pcs because its more compatible for dual core processors. Enjoy your faster pc.

How to make my PC run faster?

I would upgrade your ram to at least 1GB of ram or more, "the higher the better" ram memory will make the computer considerabily faster. Plus a Video Graphics Card with one 1GB of ram will free up resources in your computer and increase performance.

Do this model supporsts win xp service pack 2

Hi.

This unit has a Pentium 4 2GHz single core processor, and does support Windows XP SP2.

The standard memory installed on this unit was 256KB RAM, in order to run XP efficently you will need to upgrade the RAM. I suggest upgrading RAM to the maximum amount allowed of 2 GB RAM.

To upgrade the RAM to 2 GB you will need 2 modules of 1GB PC2100 184 pin DIMM ECC each.

Problem with my geforce4 mx

Sounds to me like either the card is bad or you have a corrupt driver. If you remove the card will it start? then it is a bad card. If you uninstall driver either through safe mode (hold F8 at powerup before windows starts) or restore to last known working config (also F8). I suggest you go to nvidia website to download your drivers. let me know if you are still stuck, we'll work it out.

Problem with NVidia GeForce4 MX 4000.

Hi!
Your old Rage Pro is an AGP 2x, where the Nvidia is an AGP 8x.

The Nvidia is probably not compatible with your motherboard.

Also, I think Nvidia needs much more than 320 Mb ram.

Too slow

the only way to improve graphics is to upgrade your graphics card and ensure that you have enough system memory and proccesor power to run the game as it should do. If you have a 32MB or 64MB card then maybe you should go for atleast 128MB
