Before rebuilding the carburetor, spray carburetor cleaner in it. The first time you use your trimmer after the winter, any fuel that was left in the lines can form deposits. The cleaner dissolves these deposits.

You need to rebuild the carburetor. You will need to go to an outdoor power & equipment store of some kind to get a carburetor kit for your specific trimmer. It will come with various gaskets, (some of which you won't use), a needle valve, and a small screen that goes in the carb. Replace all old parts with new. New primer bulb is sold seperately. When you have the carb. apart, you will also need to clean the small ports with a Den Tek Brush (used for cleaning teeth). Use carb. cleaner when cleaning.

I own a Husqvarna 128LD. My trimmer works on full choke, half choke, and when in the run position...it runs...but when the trigger is on balls to the wall throttle, it goes dead. What is my next move?

The next step is to richen the fuel mixture on the H screw on the carb, there is a special tool required to turn the adjuster screws because they have a splinr rather than a screw driver slot, the tool is part np. 530035560 unscrew tthe H screw 1/4 turn anti clockwise.

Gas Trimmer will not stay started

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

I have a Trimmer SS30. When I run it I must keep choke at half setting with full gas. If I put it on run it stops. After awhile even on half choke it stops.

You probably just need a carburetor adjustment. At half-choke the engine is getting an overly rich fuel mixture. This is normal procedure during warm up, but after a couple of minutes, a leaner mixture is needed. That is where adjusting the carburetor comes in. It probably has a Zama or Rueiing carburetor. I use small automotive type wire connectors (plastic) and lightly tap them onto the irregular heads of the adjusting screws. These are marke L and H respectively on the carburetor. The L screw is always closest to the engine. Here is how to make the proper adjustments. If this doesn't work then a good cleaning and/or rebuild of the carb will be needed. They periodically need this done at any rate after a couple years or so. Please view this:

Are you running a gas/oil mix? If you are try making sure you didnt add too much oil (will usually smoke) and will possibly stall. Your air fuel mixture may be off and need adjusting too.

Ryobi straight gas trimmer, runs rough at idle and up to 1/2 speed, but great at full speed. Bought a reconditioned one.

Here was my solution:
I was having problems with my ryobi cs30 weedeater also. It would start up fine on full choke, but i could not give it more than half throttle or ever take the choke off or it would stall out. I replaced fuel mixture, spark plug, spark arrestor/exhaust, fuel lines, cleaned carb, and still nothing! I was considering getting a better machine. Then i decided to play with the carb adjustments.(on my cs-30, they are two screws on the carb that have a "L" and "H" next to them) I dont think you can get the specialty tool for adjusting the carb unless you are a repair tech, so i just took a Dremmel tool with the circular cut-off wheel to the head of the specialty screws and made them into "flat-head" screws so i could adjust them with a regular screwdriver (if you dont have a dremmel, get one!) (As i was cutting into the head of the screws, i also cut into the casing protecting the head of the screws that was in the way, this does not cause any damage to the unit, that casing is only there to keep "un-certified" people from adjusting it for themselves.)
Now to the easy part: The "L" screw adjusts the idle fuel mixture and the "H" screw adjusts the full throttle fuel mixture. turning the screws clockwise make the machine run leaner (less fuel) and counter clockwise makes it run richer (more fuel).
-I started out by turning each screw 1/2 turn counter clockwise and started it up, then as it was idling, i started adjusting the "L" screw as i was moving the choke position to run, after a few full turns counter clockwise of the "L" screw, it was idling perfectly in the run position, then i did the same thing the the "H" screw while holding down the throttle and i got it to run perfectly in the run position. Now it is running way better than it ever has. I hope this helps everyone.
Good Luck!
* For this specific problem, i would say you should probably just adjust the "L" screw and hopefully that will help

Problem with gas trimmer staying started

Carburetor is out of adjustment. there are two carb adjustment screws on the side of the Carb. they require a special tool that is only $5 from your local mower repair dealer. those screws are the idle and Hi speed mixture adjustments. the carbs on Ryobi are set too lean. turn counterclockise to richen the mixture. just turn one eigth of a turn at a time. start w the hi speed.
