My LG DR787T recorder/player will display "HELLO" when powered up, then the display letters disappear one at a time, as they should, and the machine should boot up. In this case, the display "HELLO" letters disappear as they should, but instead of booting up, the display shows "HELLO" again, and the cycle repeats endlessly. What to do?
Last time we had one of those doing that, it was the laser assembly that needed replacement. It's doing what is called POST. "Power On Self Test" and not able to get a "status" from the laser. It will keep trying indefinitely, repeating "Hello". Hello, is just it's way of saying, please wait while I check every little thing and confirm I am ready to operate safely and efficiently.

I replaced the c18 and c36 both are 2200uf at 10v.The display came on a little brighter than before.

I have this same junk DVD recorder(LG model dr787T). At the time, it was the most expensive one in the store, my wife got it for my birthday. It always had reading problems with DVDs, most of the time it would say "NO DISC" even good brand new movies. This thing is a worthless piece of junk and LG should take them back and replace them. I had contacted LG about a year ago about it, they just told me how to reset it. It doesn't help. I haven't touched the thing in months now, but just tried to burn something tonight and now I've wasted an hour trying to get it to work, that's why I'm online, checking to see if I can find any secrete to make this thing work right.
