I have a Tecra 8200 bought as used fitted with 256MB of ram. If I buy an extra 256MB which brings the total to the maximum allowed of 512MB is it likely that I will need to upgrade the bios to allow the...

This laptop came with 128mb ram, you can safely install 2 sticks of 256mb for a maximum of 512mb with no bios update.
You need pc100 sodimms.
Amazon or ebay will be the best bet as this memory is expensive now from a retailer.
I found 256mb sticks for under $10 buy it now on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/256MB-SODIMM-PC100-SDRAM-256-MB-PC-100-LAPTOP-144-Pin-/190411543153?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c55699271

Ram upgrade in 845GLL

Best advice....go to www.crucial.com and run their system scanner. It will tell you what you have, what kind it takes, and the max. amount you can install. They will also suggest upgrades.

This is the info I found on their site:

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=D845GLLY

Again, go to the site and verify it with the scanner. It is safe.

Thanks for using Fixya.

PC does not recognized all memory installed on an upgrade of RAM

The operating system perhaps does not support anymore ram then this.

Or the motherboard may need a firmware update.

You can get the latest firmware from the manufactures website

Hello, I have a Satellite A15 @129 w/756 MB RAM. I'd like to upgrade but don't know the maximum RAM stick each slot will take and don't remember if there are 2 slots or 4. Thanks, RD

The maximum RAM for this laptop can up to 1 GB DDR1 266MHz RAM and 2 memory slot available, so since u have already 756 MB RAM in your laptop, that mean 1 of your RAM stick is 512MB and another 1 is 256MB, so if u need to upgrade, u have to replace the 256MB with 512MB to make it 1GB maximum.

Can you expand the memory on a Systemax Intel SIS651 System

Your motherboard is actually a Foxconn 651M03.

According to your system you have :
512MB DDR333 PC2700 Non-ECC Memory (512MB x 1)
(One stick of 512MB)

The motherboard manual says this:
System Memory
Two 184-pin DDR DIMM slots
Supports PC1600/PC2100/PC2700 memory
Supports 64Mb/128Mb/256Mb/512Mb technology up to 2GB

(This means you can have a total of up to 2 Gigabytes of RAM)

If you upgrade your RAM, you will need to make sure that you get the correct type.

If you want to keep the RAM you have, you will only be able to have 1.5 GB of RAM because you only have two slots to work with. If you want to upgrade to the full 2 GB, you will need to buy 2, 1 GB sticks.

RAM

1st......Operating System?????
2nd.....Run Device manager to ascertain RAM installed
3rd.....Download Sandra Lite to find M/B specs.(Free Download)
4th.....Check if RAM is SODIMM,SDRAM,DDR,etc
5th.....Open PC case to ensure RAM slots available.
6th.....Purchase correct RAM.e.g.128MB->256MB,256MB->512MB,512MB->1024MB
