Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet
Even though I have Norton 360 9.0, installed on my laptop, I continue to get viruses, etc.! I have already done 9 Recoveries on my laptop to get rid of these. I notice that my laptop is getting slower after each recovery. I am new @ using any type of computer & do not know what else I can possibly do to help with this problem. Would it be safe for me to add another type of virus/spyware protection @ the same time I have Norton? I'm @ my wit's end trying to prevent this from occuring so often! Norton has, on occasion, blocked a virus/ tracking cookie. I know that someone was able to gain access to my account on My Yearbook because something was added on my profile that I did not put there! Help! Should I do another recovery?
If your computer is getting slower even through a recovery, you should try making sure that all the cooling fans are clean. Just take a can of compressed air and give it a blast into all the air vents in your laptop. Make sure you do this with the battery out and the power off, just in case a little condensation gets inside the laptop.
Norton should be able to prevent viruses, but browsing habbits mean a lot when it comes to viruses. Avoid downloading files through peer to peer software. Many websites will install spyware onto your computer, and many software downloads try to bundle programs that run in the background on your computer. MSN messenger, for example will by default try to install the MSN toolbar, and other small bits of software that can add up to really slow down the machine.
If you're using windows Vista, it's good to have at LEAST 1GB of RAM, and even then Vista can demand much more, causing you to fall into paging file usage, which really slows a computer down.
If you're using Windows XP, make sure that you are completely up to date, as many exploits have been discovered, and patched with automatic updates.
Hope this helps.
