Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

Wrt54g router simply quit working on the base computer. This is not the wireless conection, but the cabled connection. Cable in from my modem and cable out from Port 1 to my pc. I was using the computer at the time and internet was lost suddenly. Disconected from router and pluged direct to pc and it works fine so it's not a Comcast problem. Switched cables so that's not it. Switched ports so that's not it either. Yes, I tried resetting the router too. Any ideas?

The simplist solution is to try a full reset. There should be a recessed reset button on either the front or rear of the unit. While the power is on, press the reset button for about 10 seconds, and then release. The unit should re-set.

Then you will have to access the router via your browser to re-setup the parameters.

For details about re-setting the unit, and doing the setup refer to the user manual.

If the reset process does not work, there is a strong possiblity that the router is defective. It will be cheaper to buy a new router than sending it in for service if it is out of warranty.

Most Cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use Media Access Control (MAC) Address authentication to establish Internet connection for end-users. MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to the network adapter/s of the computer.
To set up your Linksys router to work with a Cable ISP, you have to enable the MAC Clone feature of the router. MAC Cloning is a procedure which enables a router to copy the MAC address of the computer that's registered with the ISP.
To setup a Linksys router with Cable connection you need to perform four steps using the computer that's been registered with the ISP:
i. Verifying Internet Connection
ii. Connecting Devices Together
iii. Checking the Router's LEDs
iv. Configuring a Linksys Router for a Cable Internet Connection

I hooked up everything right modem to router, router to computer. but i still cant get internet to my computer. if i hook my modem directly to the compiter it works fine but not through the router

Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) limit you to *ONE* unique computer connected through the cable-modem (or DSL-modem).
Turn the cable-modem off.
Turn the router off.
Connect the cable-modem to the router, via an Ethernet cable to the 'WAN' port on the router.
Turn the cable-modem on.
Turn the router on.
Connect, via an Ethernet cable, from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to your computer.
Restart your computer.
You should be OK.
If not, telephone your ISP, and get them to trouble-shoot from "their" end towards your end.

Cable modem is connected to the router but the router is not working wireless or when connected via Ethernet cable

You need to check first if the internet is working if you connect your computer directly to the modem. If there is internet on your modem, you need to reset and reconfigure the router. If there is no internet on the modem, you need to contact your internet provider.

Linksys wrt54g SRX200. I can connect to my router

It appears the connection between the Linksys and the modem is not working.
Try a different LAN cable.
Check the LAN cable from the modem to the Linksys, it should be connected to the WAN/Internet port on the Linksys.

Comunication between modem and wireless is not working

First you need to make sure that your modem alone is working right. you can check this by connecting your computer directly to the modem and testing for the internet connectivity.

Then power off everything. connect the ether net cable from the modem to the router. connect both the power cables (modem and router). power the modem first, wait for a minute and then power the router. this should work

My Linksys WRT54G Will Not Work.

It seems that your cabling is wrong. This is what it should look like:
  1. Telephone outlet to cable modem (Via telephone cable)
  2. Cable modem to router (via Ethernet cable)
  3. router via Ethernet cable or wireless to computers
Does your setup look like this? Please let me know if not so we can configure it correctly.

We have 16 Computers 1 broadband connection of bsnl and one

There is a pretty good writeup here:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadgets-computers-software/36499-bsnl-broadband-wireless-configuration-2.html

But if you have already configured the modem and it does work.
All you need to do is plug an ether net cable from that to the 'Uplink' port on the back of the WRT router.

After that it should serve that conection out to the machines that are cabled to it. The other machines that you will connect wirelessly can be done through the web interface to the WRT. Which will appear at 192.168.1.1
