Hi, You will need to change the coils on top of the gas valve. If the ignitor glows but the flame doesn't come on, this is your answer. It is a very common problem with the gas dryer. If I can assist you further, please let me know.
thanks

I have an Amana LG4319w/l2 gas dryer converted to Lp gas. The ignitor comes on but will not ignite the gas. Theis happened before and the technician replaced the ignitor and said the ignitor must dray a certain amount of current to allow the gas valve to open. How do you test to determine this problem? If it is the thermal protection unit that is defective will the unit be open or closed circuit? Any other area that I should look at?

You have dead short to earth. You need to call in an engineer to diagnose where the fault is and replace the faulty item. Dryers have 220 volts and big amps, so you don't want to play with this yourself. Often the culprit is a broken element which his touching the case. Second choice would be defective capacitor on the motor, or the motor itself.

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

My dryer flame lights then goes out after a little while. It does this on timed as well as amount dried cycles. Drum still turns but heat goes out. I can usually get it going by starting the dryer again....

How do you light pilot light?

Dryer does not have pilot light.  There is an ignitor that glows when the dryer is started and lights the flame when the gas begins to flow.  With the front of the dryer off start it up and look for the glow. when it glows hot enough (or on a newer model it might be a spark) the gas should ignite.  When the flame sensor sees that the gas is ignited it shuts off the ignitor and keeps the gas valve open until the temperature sensor gets high and shuts it off.  When the temp sensor cools down the cycle repeats.
If no glow or spark-->bad ignitor If no gas flow-->bad flame sensor or bad gas valve coil If gas comes on and goes off quickly-->lint filter and/or vent pipe or outlet may be clogged or bad flame sensor.

Dryer flame on magtag wont stay lit. Pilot flares up but no flame

Thermocouple is probably bad. The pilot burns and heats a sensor which tells the CPU that the Flame can start, and the thermocouple heating up changes voltage with increase temperature and tells the CPU that the Flame is burning OK. If it is defective, there is no voltage change and the CPU assumes that the Flame didn't start for some reason, (Gas only!) and turns if off for safety. Over and over xx times.

Good Luck!
