Re: accidently log off and cant remember password.
you wont be able to see your contact list in the new user account since this is a totally different username. If y ou cant remember your password, there is an option to click on forgot password. click that adn it will give you the option to retrieve the password. check this link as well:

Maybe some user type your email as his by mistake, if so the only way is to create a new account with a new email.
if that's not the case then maybe you deactivated your account by mistake or it was suspended, if so you have to wait for 30 days then try to log in again.

A friend said he changed his laptop password but forgot it. Now he is looking for the help. How to reset your forgot windows password? May be this is also your problem. If you are regularly suing a Windows laptop, It's always a good idea to password protect it, even if you are its aole user. If you forgot your password at any time, you will need to reset it. You need to create a password reset disk being able to reset your password. If you know your password, but you just need to change it for security purpose, you can do that quickly as well.
Today I want to introduce some easy and simple ways for you. Method 1: Create Password Reset Disk 1)Turn on your laptop. 2)Insert a USB flash drive or download other password key ( take Password Recovery Bundle for example,
). According to Microsoft, you can only create one if you are a local user. If your computer is on a network or domain, an administrator must reset your password. 3)Click the "Start" buttom. Click "Control Panel". "Open" user Accounts and Family Safety. "Click" User Accounts". 4)On the left-hand side, click "Browse" to browse 0 image file. The file is usually located as the default. Follow the instrution. When completed, then you can access if you need to reset your password. Method 2:Reset password Turn on your laptop and log in to Windows. If you cannot log in because you enter the wrong password, Windows will show a message that you entered an incorrect password. Click "OK" Click "Reset Password" Insert your password reset disk drive. Follow the instruction in the Password Reset wizard. This will allow you to create a new password. Log in to Windows with the new password. You can use the same password reset disk any time if you need to reset your password. Method 3:Change Password Turn on your laptop and log in to Windows. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. A new screen will appear that gives you several options. Click "Change a Password". Type in your old password. Type in a new password. Type your new password again. Press Enter. Write down your new password and keep it ina safe place or remember by your heart . Relate source: http://www.recoverlostpassword.com/products/how_to_use_windowspr.html
The solution to this is tricky. and may cost you some money.
and, if this is a file vault protected user account, you are just plain stuck.
Assuming you want to save all your data
read all before proceeding.
Get a second Hard Drive, install an OS on it if there isn't already one.
Boot to that HD, Set up as "NEW" do not transfer any info. when you get to it, create a user account that is different and obvious from the old account you are trying to reclaim. Use something like "TEMP Account".
Copy your user account from the old HD to the new HD (into the Users folder) create a new user account, but use the same name as the old user folder is called. use a password you will remember and add a "hint" at the bottom. log out and log back into the user account that you just created.
That depends on a couple of things. First, did you give an administrator password? If so, let's hope you remember that one. If not, then this should go rather smoothly.
When starting up the netbook, hold the f8 key down. Once this is done, you should get a screen that asks how you wish to boot up windows. Your choices should be something along the lines of: Start windows normally, Safe mode with networking, safe mode without networking (or maybe it's just safe mode), or start windows with the last known good configuration.
We want to select safe mode. Windows will load, and it will take you to the log in screen. Log in as the user "administrator". Go to start/control panel/user accounts. Select the user you want to clear the password for, click change password, and clear all the characters from the box. Click ok and restart. You will then be able to log into that user and reset your password.
When the computer is turning on, after the first POST screen, press F8 repeatedly and select Safe Mode from the menu. When Windows loads, select Administrator as the account, go to Control Panel > User Accounts and create a new account. You can also delete the old one. Restart and log in to your new account. If you really need to access the locked account, first log in to the newly created one, Start > Run: CMD, to the command line enter: net user [name of the account] after that the new password (you won`t need the old one), after this you can log off and log in to the previously locked account.
