Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

Condensation on the outside of the ice/water dispenser on freezer side.

We have condensation building up on the outside of the freezer side of the side by side refrigerator. It builds up just above the ice/water dispenser. Also, our electricity went out for about 12 hours last week due to a storm, and water kept dripping out of the ice dispense. It was enough that I had to use a bath towel several times to soak up the water. That's never happened before. What is going on with our fridge? We bought it in 2007.

Turn the water supply off to the back of refrigerator and take the line feeding the supply to the water control valves off and then put the line into a pan to purge any trash that may have collected before entering control valve. It is very possible that a piece of rust or a piece of plastic is holding the control valve open slightly. The continuous dripping of the chilled water is what I suspect is causing the condensate. On bottom of the refrigerator Sears uses a number like this example. You may find the number behind the cold food section door near floor. I will need that to help you better. Example 215.22897
Sears always gives their models a different number than the same models that GE, Whirlpool, Westinghouse and on and on. When you are able to see if the valve is stuck and need to clean or replace it we will need your model like in the example to find the correct part, Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Here is the water valve I want you to find. Most times it is located on back of refrigerator and you will see 2 plastic hoses coming out of it. Go to my site and enter the part number 240531101

into the model and parts search feature.

I really cannot think of another reason for it to leak other than the water control valve is bad or trash caught in the plunger in the center of the valve.

Why Samsung fridge has condensation around water/ice dispenser and drips every few hours?

Usually due to CONDENSATION due to bad door seals or a plugged evaporator drain line? Can use a soft flexable tubing and very hot water to clean it out. Bad door seals usually need replacement, but u can use a blow dryer and something to pry it closer to the door wall while blowing hot air on to it. To create a seal, to test for bad door seals place a dollar bill in between the door and wall of fridge where it closes. Then slide out the dollar bill with door closed. It should offer some resistance and not be easy to pull out.
Most all fridges have a drain. Look inside your fridge for a "V" shaped channel with a small hole. This hole leads to a tube and a small pan which sits on top of your refrigerator's compressor. The defrost cycle causes water to run into the channel, down the tube, and then it generally evaporates with the heat of the hot condenser/compressor.
However, if that tube is clogged with food crumbs, particles , debris etc, you will have to clear it to get back to a normal mode of operation. A toothpick, pipecleaner, straw or a cotton bud can often do the trick.
Even a frost free freezer will still ice up at times in the areas away from the heated defrost area and the drain line can freeze. This icing causes the pipe work to the compressor to ice over or sweat and cause a puddle. Or if the drainage has frozen over, it will need to be de-iced. ( usually the line is under the freezer bottom plate covering. Towards the back of the unit) And there is another inside the fridge area also.
Give the freezer a good overnight defrost until it's totally clear of ice in addition to making sure the drain is clear to the pan at the back and then

Ice build-up in bottom of freezer section.

your defrost drain on the freezer side is stopped up causing the drain to freeze over then eventually running out on the floor during the defrost cycle. Locate the drain at the back of the freezer and thaw it out using hot water. Using a screw driver or other object gently push down into the defrost hole and dislodge whatever is stuck there.

An air hose with good air pressure may also work well. When the drain line is clear you should be able to pour water through it freely.

Rust ruining door at lower corners of ice/water dispenser.

when you dispense ice or water, you are allowing the drip tray to overfill and the water builds underneath the tray until the water reaches the point were it will leak down the front of the door. the water will rust the panel beyond repair. you will have to replace the whole door at this point. hope this helps.

I have a side by side fridge/ freezer bought new 5 yrs age and the water/ice dispenser keeps leaking water. I noticed the the lever in the dispenser area seems loose. what would cause this type of problem?

One of two thing. Either the flap is not closing all the way allowing condensation to build up and drip, or you have a seaping water valve allowing water to seep out of the water spout insde the door.
Please rate solution if helpful. Thanks

Water dispenser system

the dispenser in the freezer door has a small low temp heater surrounding the dispenser compartment to keep this from happening, and also to keep condensation from building up around the dispenser. this heater may have stopped working.
