Question about Garden

My mower will not speed up when the control is pushed for to speed it up it only runs at a very slow pace. I have replaced the belt and both of the cables. I am wondering what the problem could be.

it is a TroyBilt model # 12AF5690711 , 6.75 HP Briggs and Straton. The mower is a Tuff Cut 230 the 2004 model year. I hope that is more beneficial. Like I said I replaced the 2 Cables the Drive and Control cables and the belt. The belt tightens up when the control is moved forward as it supposed to but the mower jus still goes at the same slow speed. The motor does not rev higher it stays the same speed.

I would try to help, but I need more info than that. I assume it's a self propelled walk behind.. What brand is it and what is the model # of the engine AND the mower.

Unfortuatly, that model # doesn't show to be good. Maybe you left out a dash or got a number/letter wrong. Anyway, with that engine, if you can manually rev the engine up by turning the throttle shaft behind the air filter with your finger, the bracket that the governor spring is hooked to just behind the edge of the air filter at the front of the engine has probably been pushed in by running into objects and needs to be reset to proper RPM's, about 3200 . However, if you attempt to do this yourself and set the rpm's too high, it could ruin your engine.

Yes, the drive belt only connects the motor to the gearbox that drives the mower. The mower should still start.

MOST likely cause is a worn/failed drive belt. I'd replace that first - be SURE to use a Kevlar belt or you'll be repeating the repair in a very short time frame.

Husqvarna too slow when mowing

Some self-propelled mowers include a speed control, but sometimes it may seem that no matter how you adjust it, the mower just creeps along at a snail's pace. Most likely this isn't a mechanical malfunction, but an adjustment is probably needed.

Very tall or thick grass can bog down a self-propelled mower, but adjusting the height of the blade may allow it to roll through and cut the grass at normal speeds. If the blade is low, the amount of cutting required may slow down the movement of the entire mower. The frame of the mower may also stick in the high grass. Raise the blade little by little until the mower rolls at the appropriate speed. Going up hills may cause a similar response.

It's possible the drive belt on the mower can slip. Inspect this part to see if it is loose or cracked, and replace the belt to restore power.

Throttle running too slow

I have the same problem. The mower is great---always starts and runs good, but it runs to slow and you can't speed it up. I even took it all apart. There just is no throttle control. I imagine it is designed this way to keep people from working on their mowers and to require an expensive trip to the service center. It will be my last Toro for this reason.

Lawn mower chugging

better late than never, I have the same mower

there is no throttle control on these mowers, if you look under the air filter the throttle is balanced by a spring pulling in one direction and a lever controlled by engine speed. if the spring breaks or falls off the lever will wiggle back and forth, more gas if the engine slows, less if it speeds up. you end up going fast/slow/fast/slow etc.

The tension spring slows the switching down and smooths out the engine speed.

Toro Personal Pace self propel problem.

Your self-propel is probably belt driven. Belts can make an awfully lot of noise when unhappy. Possible it has rolled over and is running on the wrong side of the belt or is worn and just needs replaced. Hope this helps.,
