Sansa Bad Track Fix.....

Make sure you are leaving your player plugged into your computer long enough to write the track information to it. The first go round mine played fine....then later I was getting the bad track problem...then I thought...maybe I unplugged it too soon because a lot of the files said unknown. I put it in MSC mode and plugged it in....on the player it said Writing....even though i wasn't transferring and i stopped the updater....when it finished i played it and no more bad tracks and no more unknowns. May work for others as well.....

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out:
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

Mp3 is locked

dont touch your sansa for about 1hour and be sure to lock it then it will auto shut off then delete the track that is a "bad track"

Sansa bad track

You have to make sure that the device is on MSC mode...then make sure your device is plug in to the computer..Then go to programs - accesories - windows explorer, find the SanDisk in my computer, go to media1.gif, music and delete them from there.
Either under sync pane in windows media player it will show your music when it's connected. just click the plus signs for what song you need to get rid of, right click and click delete.

i have had my Sansa e260 for about 6 months and while i was listening to a song it kept saying Bad track , Bad track , i got worried so i shut it off. Now its alsost like the power button is being held in it keeps showing the screen that comes on when you turn it on. When i plug it into my computer it doesnt even show up on the Monitor. i dont know what happened to it or how to fix it. Please HELP!!

I could listen to some songs

Prob need to format the player
1. put player in msc mode (settings menu under USB)

2. go to my computer and rightclick on sansa

3. format box: choose quick format

4. format complete, allow player to stay connected to computer for 10 mins

go to and under downloads, download the updater to keep this from happening again, put the updater on your computer so each time you plug it in, it will look for updates

make sure you do not put questionable files on the player such as itunes or mp4, as they will "bad track"

Bad Track and No Files Message

Yeah, I have that "Bad Track" problem for some my tracks or even for entire albums. The only thing I can think of that would cause that is if you skip over the track consistantly. Anyway, the best solution I've found for that is to go to Windows Media Player, delete the track, and then put it back on if you have it backed up on your computer. P.S.: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE SONG BACKED UP ON YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT THIS. If that doesn't work, you should find another way to get the song. Unfortunately, I can't help you with the "No Files" problem since I haven't experienced that.

You have a corrupt file - bad file...

Corrupt files for sansa -

Plug your player in, in MSC mode.

Right-click on it.

Click "properties"

Click "tools"

Click "Error Checking"

Check both the boxes on the error checking window that pops up, and click start.

After it finishes, check your player to make sure your player is normal.
