40 inch polaroid lcd tv

This is a common problem with Polaroid sets. I would check the power supply/inverter board for any capacitors with bulging tops. The typical ones that cause this problem are 10uf 450V caps.

Most likely you have a fault with the power supply board or main board. I would start with the power supply board. Does the power light come on when you plug in the set?

I have a red light and thats about it...i have a 32 inch polaroid and it just wont power up

In case of FLM-3232 this can be both the main board and the power board.

I'd say the odds are in your favor that it is the power board - this is the more common scenario.

If you test the board and find that it produces proper primary voltage, though, then the problem is in the main board.

This is also curable sometimes, but unfortunately at least presently we do not offer a repair service for it.

Hope this helps!

Polaroid Tv model number 4011 tlxb. It's dead but I still get the stand by light when I plug it in but won't turn on. I've read about the bad capacitors. I checked them and they don't appear to be...

This really is going to depend on how much work you want to do. If the light isn't changing at all, the problem could be either with your power board, which you are mentioning, or it could also be with your video board, as that is the board that sends the PW_ON signal to the power board. You can try checking your voltages on the power on line, but you shouldn't do this if you are worried or uncertain of your abilities. You could just hope that its the power board and buy one, or alternatively, you could order the whole control box (main board and power board) for good measure. Shopjimmy has the control box for $165, and they are currently running a 20% off promotion through 12/26.

Honestly, its up to you if you want to invest that much in your TV. The way prices are going, you should be able to pick up a 40" LCD TV for $350 soon. You could probably sell your broken Polaroid for ~$100. If you end up getting a new one, I would suggest getting an extended warranty (3 yrs preferably), then I would suggest selling the TV before the warranty expires. These types of electronics aren't as reliable as older TVs.

Polaroid 26inch lcd tvred standby light on but power wont turn on. I've unplugged the tv, changed the batteries in the remote. The tv stays with the red standby light only.

You need to open it up and checking the voltages in the power supply sections, you should have 5v (for logic circuits), 12v for sound, 24v for backlight inverter circuits. Look for bad caps with bulging tops in power supply also.

Have a polaroid lcd that fizzled. blue light

The Polaroid FLM3701 has a problem with capacitors failing on the power supply board. If enough caps go bad, you will get no power. Not even a power light.
This P/S board is easy to access on this TV. There is a plastic cover on the back of the TV. It is attached with 8 screws. Remove the cover. This will expose 2 boards. The power supply board is on the right. To remove the P/S board, first unplug the cables. There is an AC power power cord on the right and 4 data cables on the left. The board is held in with 4 screws. Remove the screws and the board will lift out. Any capacitor that is swollen is bad. The top of the capacitor will be curved upward. On the left side of the P/S board, there are 9 big caps labelled E8 thur E17. I would suggest replacing all of them. 6 are 680uF 35V and 3 are 680uF 25V. In the upper central region there are 3 small caps. These go bad, but they do not swell. These are E6, E7 and E22. They are all 22uF 50V. Replace all three.

Hello. i have a proview mh-462su plasma television. when powered on, screen is black with red and white bars. after a couple seconds, screen goes completely black and power indicator led on front of the...

The fact that the set no longer allows you to turn it off indicates that the power supply for the power control circuit isn't supplying the voltage it should or none at all. The service voltage for the circuit that provides IR (remote) control and probably any set-mounted controls as well, is the primary supply. I believe the high voltage for the plasma display is working but the signal (video) input is scrambled due to a failure of an output (or more than one) of the primary supply that provides voltage to the video and audio sections.
Try following the instructions I have pasted below:
Unplug your set overnight to allow potentially hazardous voltages to discharge, remove the back panel of the set so you can see the guts.
Look for a smaller board with larger parts on it; some cylindrical (capacitors), others block-like and relatively large (chokes and transformers).
You should also see a relationship between the board and the incoming AC.
Check the board for a label or if not present, a stamped-on number.
Call the manufacturer's service center with your TV model number and the number found on that board and inquire about repair/replacement costs; if both are offered, they won't be that much different.
If you must buy a new board, don't dispose of the failed one as there are smaller companies that can repair it for less than the mfr. and then keep it as a spare as this problem will likely arise again.
