Question about Microtek 710S 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Dialogue box in the middle of the screen

I have a Microtek 710S 17" flat panel LCD monitor that's great except for a purple box in the middle with the words "out of range" in it. What can I do to get that removed? This is a used monitor.

Thanks!

Out of range usually means that the computer is trying to use a resolution that is unsupported by the monitor. Try loading the PC in safe mode (for windows, press F8 before windows loads) and change the desktop resolution to 800x600, which is supported by pretty much any monitor. Restart the computer normally and you should get your video. Once inside windows you can experiment with different resolutions, and when it goes out of range, just wait 15 seconds for it to go back to 800x600.

My Microtek 710S Monitor screen goes black if left unattended for one minute. What do I do to keep this from happening?

Check the power setting of your PC.
  • If you are on windows;
  • Click on start button
  • If you have vista or windows 7, type "poweroptions" into the search bar.
If not, open control panel and find the power options inthere
  • In "power options" you can change when the displaygets turned off and when your PC will go to sleep, just change these settingsto the time you want, e.g. 2hours

I want to quit using the Realtek speakers that I added to the computer and go back to my monitor speakers, but now I can't figure out how to get them to make a sound.

You just have to connect the audio input of the monitor to the audio line out of the PC using an shielded audio cable with mini-stereo phone plugs at bothbudmrtn_13.jpg ends.

The colors are off

Red, or green, blue cast? Check all the pins of the VGA cable first, and also try it with another PC to make sure it is not video card problem.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Does it show any sign of life when you poweron the PC? With the PC powered on, remove the data cable of the monitor (yes the D plug) from the PC and insert it back. See if there are any signs of life. If there are any signs of life, reboot in safe mode by pressing F8 at bootup. If it boots in Safe Mode, then go to Control panel->Display->Settings->Advanced. Remove the Monitor and let windows detect the monitor. Same thing can also be done from Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager-. Monitor. Remove the monitor and from Actions select Scan for New HW.
