Question about Brother HL 1440 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Make image darker

We have a silkscreen business. My printer is a Brother HL-1440, graphic class 1200dpi. On regular paper, images are okay; however, on tranparencies (vellum is used to print artwork for graphic exposure), I am unable to get a dark enough image for a good art/graphic exposure on my screens. Also, under printer properties, I only have dpi options of 300 and 600; 1200 is not listed at all. Printing is always done 600dpi unless I have halftones in the artwork, then of course, 300dpi is required for them to expose properly. What can I do so my printed image will be darker on transparencies (vellum) in order for me to get the best exposure of my artwork when exposing my screens? My toner cartridge is okay and I purchased a new drum a couple of years ago, so feel that should still be in good condition. I don't want to purchase a new printer due to the expense involved; however, this is causing me to lose business.

I found a link to the service manual kindly submitted by another poster here, there is some potentially helpful ideas there to fix problems like these: http://www.feedroller.com/Store/Service%20Manual/HL-1230,%20HL-1440,%20HL-1450,%20HL-1470N%20Parts%20and%20Service%20Manual.pdf

Check out p.165 and onwards. If you are like me, the easy service points like cleaning the corona wire and wiping the scanner window that you are supposed to do between toner changes never gets done as long as things work ok. Maybe you already checked that but if not, this could help.

Good luck!

Where is the cartridge on a brother laser printer HL-1400

I don't see a Brother HL-1400 on their site. However, there is an HL-1440 which uses the TN-430 (regular) or TN-460 (high yield) toner cartridges. This printer also takes the DR-400 drum unit.

This toner cartridge works with several models in the HL-1400 series, including the HL-1435, HL-1440, HL-1450 and HL-1470N.

I hope this helps.

My HL 1440 is printing very light. The toner cartridge is pretty new. Is there something I can do to get it to printer darker?

Go into start- Printers and faxes and right click on the printer, then go to properties.

Depending on the printer (it varies greatly) there should be a tab at the top for printing quality or something similar. You can adjust the ink level there.

Brother HL-1440 LASER PRINTER requires ''Service Call A''.

currently, the error you have is not a service errorl, ready and alarm blink means that you have either a paper jam, no paper, or a paper misfeed.

do you get this error only when you try to print?
according to the service manual the lights can not alternate in blinking.

(blinking every 5 seconds) Toner Low Indicates that the toner cartridge is nearly empty. Purchase a new toner and have it ready for when Toner Empty is indicated. (solid) Toner Empty Replace the toner cartridge with a new one. User's Manual is available at the following location: http://www.brother-usa.com/Data/Documentation/Printer/User/UM_HL1440_1450_1470N.pdf Hope this helps.
