i have the correct bios update.. from the hp site.

my linux is still intact and working.. but keeps shutting down.

i presume now it could be the temperature changes produced by the bios

    it said missing file ...
unable to load... some file name ...showed the destination and the next moment poof... shutdown
this happened with re-installing windows xp genuine. do u think it is still a bios problem?
but in case a file is missing it generally should wait... but shutting down in jiffy does not make any sense.
even windows 7 beta it refuses ... explaining that it had a file missing and cant load and poof... system turned off!!!

Wrong BIOS
you are dead in the water, the laptop is dead. unless you can get another same motherboard and swap the BIOS.
other choice is to install your OS from the begining, if the laptop let you into the BIOS.

try format the HD with 3 party software, i.e. maxtor, seagate, etc.
if you can format the HD, then you should be able to reload the OS.
if not the BIOS still is the problem.
I suspect the BIOS you download and install is not completely comparable with your system, that happen to me once, I have to replace the BIOS chip to the system back.

No reverse. look into ebay , see if you can get a used motherboard with the old BIOS chip. all you can do is replace it.

Sound not insell

Go to the hp website on the dv4000 computer. Enter dv4000 and then the sub model number on the label from the bottom of the laptop. Then allow the installation of the driver scanner from HP to download/install (press OK to continue to install and let it scan the unit for needed driver updates), then go to the Audio section of the then listed drivers. after entering the operating system installed (see Start>Control Panel>System>General tab for installed OS info), and install that latest Audio driver package update. I would also personally install all the other required driver(s) & the latest BIOS update listed there also myself. IMPORTANT: When installing the latest released (or highest #'d) BIOS update (the BIOS simply allows all the hardware to work together w/ the OS), make sure the computer is plugged in, and do not interrupt the install process or restart/shut down the unit until the program does it for you. (If you have never "flashed a BIOS" before...Have a techie friend do it for you instead, after downloading the proper file/& flash utility...Real patience pays here, or you can flat turn a motherboard into a useless doorstop). It can always be reflashed by the manufacturer (or others), though even if a BIOS Flash is messed up.

Free Belarc Advisor ( if installed and run will inventory all your hardware & software if you have any questions about whether a specific driver listed matches your specific hardware concerning that dv4000.

There were a few HP dv series laptop motherboards that had a problem holding both Video & Audio drivers (install 1 and the other would blow out & get corrupted), install the other and just the opposite...They had a class action settlement that was only 90 days or 6 months long and really screwed many of us over in the process. If there is a choice between the dv4, dv6, & dv7 series I always pick the dv7 series to recommend to & for my customers.

Hp ENVY 6-1090ee bios corruption after flashing froze at 33%

Sounds like you had a motherboard problem before you flashed the bios. Most likely due to the failed flash the motherboard will need to be replaced. It most likely wasn't you're fault. The file you downloaded from Hp for the bios may have been corrupted as well.A lot of times a failed bios flash will be due to the motherboard being bad

Bios update

First let me just say bios flash updates are unnecessary and do not affect you windows installation. If there is an issue with the flash it could destroy your computer for ever. Check this site to see if you can find it on your laptop model: . If you cant it means your laptop is not being supported anymore and you would have to find the drivers/bios updates through other sources such as windows update or third party apps/websites. To find the bios update first find your laptops motherboard model and search for it on the manufactures website. They usually have the bios updates. If that doesn't work try google or other search engines with your laptops motherboard model.

Dv9925nr Windows 7 x64 how to to update BIOS after upgraded from Vista x64 to Win 7 x64?

You can find the bios flash the manufacturers site. But your system might already have the latest bios so be careful. You screw up the bios and you're toast.

Get onlineand got to In the google search box type: "HPSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Bios drivers. You will have to flash the bios. Look on the site for manuals to search for flashing the bios.
Also look at the bios version that is on the website to download, you might already be at that version.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3120us Entertainment Notebook. A update came from HP for the BIOS and while installing the update, it will not finish. Its frozen at 100% can you assist?

your options are wait for it to complete. Or power cycle it and hops it froze on downloading, and not during installing.

Manually download the bios update yourself and then flash it manually if it does come back up.

If the computer fails to boot up then you will need to use a recovery bootdisc and then to apply the bios update again manually as opposed to doing it in windows.
