Here's a link to the MS instructions and an article that will take you through the process step by step.
Please be aware, however, that if you didn't change your home page yourself, a change made without your intention could be an indication of malware installed on your system, also known as a browser hijacker. If you suspect this could be the case, I recommend you follow the malware removal protocols in this link to install MBAM and scan for problems...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

What is the url of the homepage on your system now?
Are you on xp or vista?
    Can you navigate the internet?

Go to the last link I gave you in that answer, or click here, download and run the ATF cleaner, then go to step one and download and install MBAM on your system. Update it, and run a quick scan of your computer. Allow it to fix any problems it finds....

Which version of IE, 7 or 8?

  • efs_perpends
    efs_perpends May 15, 2009

Open a browser window, navigate to the page you want to use as your home page, click on the down arrow button next to the house icon in the tools toolbar, choose add or change homepage, check next to use this homepage as your only homepage, and yes. Restart the browser and choose the home icon. Where do you go?

Ok. Go to Tools, Internet Options, General Tab and tell me what the home page url you see there is. If you just recently installed IE8 on your system, it sometimes takes you to their home page as a run once default so you can learn about the new features, etc. But it shouldn't have installed itself as your default home page. If it says internet explorer there, click on use default and then try to change it back to yahoo.com

Ok, so when you click on the home icon or open a new browser window, does it now take you to that yahoo site, or are you still getting hijacked to the internet explorer home page?

  • efs_perpends

You just type in the address in the address bar and press enter. So if you type inhttp://www.yahoo.com/?fr=fp-yie8
or cut and paste it in, then press enter, it takes you to that location. Then you choose the arrow button next to the home icon and make that location your home page. You can have more than one home page in IE8, which is a little confusing I guess, and you can tab between them. Or you can use the drop down arrow to remove the extra home pages if you don't want them anymore. Here's a link to an article on using it...click here.
There have been some compatiblitly issues with old web sites and IE8, so it's possible yahoo changed the look of the page for IE8, and that's what you're picking up on. In that case, there's not much you can do about it, I'm afraid...
I have a few issues with the IE8 browser, but we won't go into that here. Most have to do with xp.
Check out this page and links within it to learn some of the new features. Overall, it is more secure and a better browser, but I find myself using firefox a lot more because IE8 is slow on my system...

Yes, you can do that by going to control panel and add/remove programs and uninstalling IE8. Your system will revert back to IE7 automatically. But I'm pretty sure this will only be temporary, as windows will keep trying to offer IE8 as an automatic update through windows update. Yahoo may have also changed the home page. I can't see any difference between the two when I open one in firefox and one in IE8...
Sometimes the change is hard to accept, I know, but MS had a lot of reasons to develop the new browser, and it's a lot more secure than 7 was....depite the bugs that are still being worked out...
    Best of luck!

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

I'm glad to have determined that it wasn't some kind of virus that hijacked your system. We see that often enough...
Progress doesn't always seem to move forward, from where I'm standing, but it's hard to hold it back...
Fortunately we're adaptable, and our memories malleable.
    Best wishes!

All but 100 of my 1000+ Yahoo email contacts disappeared, esp in Categories. Can I recover them?

This isn't so much a solution then a recommendation. I will say that unfortunately there is a good chance you cannot recover them. However, if they can be recovered, Yahoo! is the only way you'll get them back, so try contacting Yahoo! Follow this link:

Hope this helps, and I hope you get your contacts back!

Have always had Yahoo as a homepage on a desktop pc. When clicking on a link, the article appears then screen goes blank. This has been happening for a few weeks. A message says Diagnose Connection...

Try to clear your history..everything on it,,,Remove also ll cookies and cache on TOOLS menu of your internet browser.
Go check also the the homepage and see if this was chang. Still on TOOLS menu of your internet browser select OPTION. Under MAIN tab, set "http://www.yahoo.com" as your HOMEPAGE.
Yahoo products rely its connection on INTERNET EXPLORER. It means that all connection when using any of the yahoo products will be much easier if Internet Explorer is working fine. Upgrade Internet Explorer to its latest version.
Thank you for using Fixya.
