I have a WTL5400 screaming at me, so my Husband has taken the side and back panels off to investigate, and the noise was made by the air outlet plastic fan which spins when the tumble dryer is turning, this plastic fan thing was wibbly wobbly and the nut wouldn't tighten up. He has put in a couple of different size washers and tighten up the nut and hey presto no noise.

Yes - same here - had difficulties in loosening the nut holding the fan. Tried by holding the nut on the opposite fan by another wrench and of course the wrong nut came loose. Removing the sidepanel on the right hand side (seen from front) gave access to the driveshaft itself so that i could prevent it from turning when loosening the nut. Thanks for your advice - guess you saved me 200$ here.

    more food for thought:

    Four possible areas:

There is a small roller that tightens the drive belt for the drum. They can squeak. Remove the lower front panel and you should see the small roller near the motor and belt.

Another is the two larger rollers that support the drum. You will see this if you remove the front lower panel.

A another is where the drum rides on the upper round part of the door/opening and it has a plastic guide that seperates the metal drum from the metal door/opening. Over time this wears out and the two metal pieces will squeak.

The motor bearings may be worn. Remove the drum drive belt and then start the dryer. If it squeals with the belt off then the motor bearings are likely worn.

My maytag dryer is screaming at me!!

It could be the band slipping, depending on how handy you are, you can take out the back cover and check it out while it runs. I am assuming this is an electric dryer, so taking the back cover is not so difficult, just need to figure out what type of screws it has, find the corresponding tool and take it out (make sure power is unplugged while you do this) plug it back it and let it run, you can find where the noise is coming from. If you cannot figure it out, put everything back on and then it is best to call a technician.

When i turn it on it's making a skreeching noise from the back what could it be?

The most common stuff that comes to mind first:
1) one of the rollers (there are 2) has worn out and they skreech as
they're being killed. I've even seen rollers fall apart, with the outer
part of the roller (the rubber part) squeaking as it revolves around a
frozen-on roller bearing.
FIX: replace roller(s) that're making noise
Cost of part: $10
2) the motor bearing are shot - they scream as they're being ground to dust.
Fix: replace motor.
Cost: if dryer is old, replace dryer. If Dryer under warranty, use it.
