Question about Lexmark W840 Printer

1 Answer

Cannot change paper size in drawers

I have a Lexmark w840. The printer alarm goes off for every job because the printer thinks that it has 11x17 paper in both drawer 1 and drawer 2. Drawer 1 has 8.5x11 and 2 has 11x17. I have adjusted the guides correctly but when I got into the paper menu I am not given the option to choose what size the paper is and it says 11x17 even though it's 8.5x11. I have tried to rest to factory defaults from the utilities menu with nothing happens, all of my network settings are still in there.. I have also left it unplugged form the wall for 30 minutes. When I started it back up the same problem is still there. Can anyone help me?

I have had several of these drawers that were built incorrectly, check the paper in the drawer and see if their is any free play in the paper stack if so, Take the E-clip off the edge of the paper tray remove the aluminum tray piece (CAUTION CAN BE SHARP)pop it out remove the two screws in the slide gearing and adjust the top to correlate with the bottom, reassemble and your done.

Few things check, first if the paper trays have manual adjustable levers that tell the printer what type of paper is in the tray. The other option is to go to your printer menu from your operating system and check paper assginment on settings.

Lexmark T644 Drawer 2 Missing error message but drawer 2 is in place. Drawer 2 always has problems pulling form form drawer when printing from drawer 2.

If job prints from the wrong tray or on the wrong paper or specialty media, this is an indication that the operator panel menu settings do not match the media loaded in the tray.

Make sure the Paper Size and Paper Type specified in the printer driver match the paper size and type in the tray.

Replace pc unit problem on Lexmark W840 Laser Printer

Here is an excerpt I found from the W840 user manual. Looks like you need to change the photoconductor kit. Here is the link for the user manual: images.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/w840/eng/ug.pdf
To ensure print quality and to avoid damage to the printer, the printer stops operating after the photoconductor kit has reached approximately 60,000 pages (Letter/A4). The message 84 Replace PC Unit is displayed when the printer reaches this point. If the Toner Alarm setting is set to Single or Continuous (default is Off), the printer automatically notifies you before the photoconductor reaches this point and displays the message 84 PC Unit Life Warning. To avoid having the printer stop operating, replace the photoconductor kit when you first receive the 84 PC Unit Life Warning message. Once the photoconductor kit has been replaced, normal printer operation resumes

Lexmark T632 has 2 (ea) 500 sheet drawers, but once the paper runs out in Drawer 1 it will not automatically pull from Drawer 2. Please advise how to fix this problem.

go to Menu, reports, and print out the top report.

This will show you what the printer sees as the default tray, and what paper size and type are set for each tray.

If you have plain paper in each tray, make sure that the setting page also shows that each tray is set to letter, plain.

This printer sets the tray type automatically, based on the way the tray is set. There are little tabs on the side of the tray that change as you change the size of the paper with the paper guides.

If the paper guide is set even one click off, this can cause the printer to read the paper size incorrectly, and thus will not change to the next tray. ( if it thinks that tray 2 is A4 paper, but you are printing letter, it will not change to tray 2).

if the trays ARE set correctly, but the printer is still reading it wrong, then there could be something wrong with the sensor ( metal fingers and switch ) inside the printer.

Paper not pulling from tray 2 when tray 1 empties - Lexmark T654

For the majority of the Lexmark printers, all that needs to be done is to set the paper size and type the same for each drawer. Example - drawer 1 & 2 sizes are set to letter, drawer 1 & 2 paper types are set to plain. Set up this way, when drawer 1 empties, the printer will automatically switch to drawer 2 to supply the paper.

I have an old Canon 1150 color copier. The bottom drawer #2 dropped and can't feed paper properly. So I put 11x17 paper in drawer #1 which had 8x10 paper originally. Now the panel still shows drawer #1...

Is there a paper selection wheel or bar in the tray?

Some of the older Canon models have a dial (usually in the lower right hand corner of the tray) or a slider bar (usually on the left hand side of the tray) when you open it. That has to be set properly or the machine has no idea what size paper is there.

Paper Error

The paper lift housing is cracked. The clicking noise is made by the lift gears skipping teeth.
It needs to be serviced...in the mean time, you might try feeding 11 x 17 paper through the manual feeder (bypass tray). Or if you need many 11 x 17 copies, it is possible to set another paper drawer to 11 x 17 size...just set the plastic tag in the front of cassette to LD so the machine knows what size of paper to expect (if tag is set incorrectly, machine will jam EVERY TIME)

I have a HP Deskjet 9800. It' doesn't want to print 11x17 size paper. It will feed an 11x17 sheet but nothing printed on it, after that the paper feed light blinks, and eventually the printing task bar...

I can't tell you for sure which thing I tried and worked, but I noticed the USB cable looked slightly damaged, so I switched it out. But the thing that I actually think did it was that I was using the A3 size paper because there was no 11x17 paper size with the exception of a banner 11x17, which I didn't try becuase I wasn't creating a banner.
But none the less, that did it.
