Try searching for a replacement off the Internet. You might get a laptop that is suitable for parts.
Try www.lcdpart.com they sell LCD screen parts.

It needs a repair, either a cable or the display or the major control module has failed. Open it up and see if there are any broken wires or ribbon cables. If not replace the display, see if that fixes it, if not replace the control module and see if that fixes it. Replacing parts is expensive. Why not buy another used treadmill from ebay instead.

No display problem, vga's out to external, then after 2nd reboot, internal display works, but with errors

If you have already replaced the screen...
Common problem when replacing equipment on laptops is that the "cable" goes into a flat housing that requires you to lift a little white "gate" then insert the cable and put the "gate" back down. Problems usually occur when snapping the "gate" back down. Pull the cable back out and be sure to lift the gate insert the cable and then put the "gate" back down. Once done give it a light tug and it should hold very firm and not move at all

Toshiba NB200-11M, display not working. Replaced screen and lead but no different. External monitor displays fine.

Is the display slightly visible? As in seeing shadows on the screen? You may need to replace the inverter board.

If you have replaced the LCM cable (the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard) and the screen and replacing the inverter board doesn't work then you have motherboard fault.

Half my screen will not work unless i position it just right. can anyone tell me what happened

The display data cable passes from the motherboard to the display panel under one of the hinge covers. Sometimes, because of the flexing when you open and close the lid, the cable can work loose from its connector on the motherboard. When you hold the lid at just the right angle, the connector makes good contact and the display works properly. If you remove the keyboard you can try reseating the cable in its connector.

Removing the keyboard on one of these is pretty easy. There are three clips at the top of the keyboard, near the left and right corners and in the middle. You need to gently push these forward using a small thin screwdriver to release the top edge. Then the keyboard can be tilted forward to see underneath. There is a ribbon cable from the keyboard to the motherboard, but you don't need to disconnect it. The display cable is on the right side near the top of the motherboard, I believe (it's been a while and I've only seen two of these). Make sure the cable is firmly seated in the connector.

Unfortunately, it's also possible the display cable has been damaged from flexing or because of pinching from the hinge. One or more of the wires in the cable can break. Holding the lid at just the right angle gets the broken ends to touch and they make contact so the display works, but then when you move the lid it's back to abnormal. In this case the only repair is to replace the cable. I don't know how easy it is to get one, or if it's even possible. I've run across this on many other laptops but never on one of these. Sometimes it's easy to get the cable (although usually pretty costly), and sometimes it's only available by replacing the entire display. You can try searching for the cable online. There are many sources for replacement displays and parts. Try reseating the cable first, though, since it may be all that's needed.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!

The display in a laptop connects to the motherboard by a flexible cable that passes next to one of the hinges. Because of the flexing when you open and close the lid, wires in the cable can break and cause the trouble you're seeing.

The cure is to replace the cable. It's not difficult to do, but it's not always easy to get a replacement. In some brands and models, the cable isn't available except as part of the complete display. This may be quite expensive. If a replacement cable is available, you need to be sure it's the right one for the display panel used in the computer. The same model computer may use different parts depending on when and where it was made. Using the wrong display cable won't damage anything, but the display won't work correctly.

You don't give the make and model of your laptop so I can't tell you any more. But you can search online for "replacement display cable" for your specific computer and see what's available. There are many websites offering parts and how-to information, so you may find what you need.

Good luck with the repair, and thanks for using Fixya!

This sounds like the ribbon cable that runs from the system board to the display is starting to fail. Before replacing it, you may want to check the connection at the display end and make sure that it is secure. Many manufacturers use a silver tape to secure the plug into the socket. If this tape has lost the adhesive over time, the plug may be starting to work its way out. If all connections are secure, replacing the cable is the best bet.

Unless you are highly familiar with the disassembly procedures for your laptop, I would recommend downloading a service manual for your specific model before attempting this.

Acer aspire screen goes all lines

Parts that can be involved are LCD display, display ribbon cable, or in worst case graphic chipset on motherboard.
If the problem goes on and off when pressing LCD display enclosure, then it can just be the display cable or the LCD itself.
The computer must be taken apart to find out what is causing the problem. First you try adjusting display ribbon cable, then, if moving cable problem goes away, but you cannot fix it, you replace the cable that costs few dollars. If this still does not work you replace the display.
Cheapest replacement can usually be found on Ebay
