Hi Brett,

FYI. the 3yr extended warranty only applies for the 3RED LIGHTS and E74 issues only..if the console is already in the service center, you dont have to worry anymore, microsoft technicians will surely work hard to get it fixed. just wait 2-3weeks for the whole repair process, and you& your son will enjoy playing xbox in no time. :-)

When turned on error E-73 shows up

that's XBOX hardware issues, which means that it should be fixed right away. In our case before in Microsoft, once customer get any error that start in "E" that hardware issues and what usually do is just replace the xbox specially if it is under warranty. If you get you xbox fixed by other technician, the warranty will be broken and in can be easily detected by Microsoft XBOX server, it will be better if you are going to call the xbox hotline now.

Three red lights

Three red lights error occurs when there is a general hardware failure with the Xbox 360. When this error occurs the systems signals it by showing 3 flashing red lights around the power button. There are a variety of reasons speculated why this error occurs.

The most common consensus is that the Xbox 360 has an inefficient design causing it to overheat. The overheating causes other reactions to the parts in the system to malfunction giving you the 3 flashing red lights.

So how do you fix it? Well if you still have your Xbox 360 warranty then you can ship it to Microsoft to have them fix it. Microsoft has extended the warranty to 3 years due to the huge number of problems with the consoles. There are a few stipulations to the warranty, though.
  • Only covers the Red Ring of Death Error. It does not include other types of malfunctions.
  • Applies only to the original purchaser of the Xbox 360. So you would not be covered if you bought your system from somebody else or if you purchased a used version.
  • Must have your receipt or proof of purchase.
  • Be prepared to lose any saved information that you may have if Microsoft decides to send you a replacement system instead of fixing your old one.
  • Prepare to be without your Xbox 360 for up to 4 weeks or longer, although some people have reported receiving them back much sooner.

So if your system is still under warranty and you meet the requirements above then you can send your unit to Microsoft since they do not charge you for the repair.

E74 problem

E74 error code on your Xbox360 basically means a 'general hardware error'. You may also be getting the infamous 'red ring of death' as shown by three red lights around the power button. The most likely cause of this error is over heating.
Microsoft has extended their one year warranty to three years for this problem. I would call Microsoft Xbox support before trying anything else. Their number is (800) 469-9269.
If you are still covered by the warranty, they will send you a box to ship your Xbox360 to them, they will either repair or replace it, and send it back to you, and they will pay for the postage! Downside is that this can take at least three weeks.

My xbox is got a e74 system error what is it an can i repair it

It's a known failure on the XBOX 360 and Microsoft will cover it even after the device has gone out of warranty.

Excerpt from About the E74 Error:

...the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007. We have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue. Detailed information related to the Xbox 360 warranty and resources for those who require repair can be found at http://www.xbox.com/support (http://www.xbox.com/support) .

I have the error 73 showing on my screen. how can

E73: General Hardware Error: Ethernet port... this error is caused by a problem with the Ethernet port. Try this troubleshooting. Remove the A/V cord from the back of the XBox 360. Stick two sticks into the fans to prevent them from spinning. This will cause the system to overheat within five minutes. You will know its done when the first and third quadrants light up red on the system (indicating the system has overheated). Unplug the system, plug it back in and turn it on to see if it was successful. (Note: While this method does not void your warranty, if your XBox is still under warranty I suggest sending to Microsoft to fix.

Thank you for using Fixya!

and if you do try to fix it yourself, or you've voided the warranty ( by already opening it) make sure you DON"T do the " towel Fix " it will only make things worse. you need to do an X Clamp repair. It's simple. I had no experiance whatsoever.with electronics. and I was able to figure it out the first time I tried it. I did it three weeks ago and my X box is quieter than ever and it works fine. so serach on you tube " X Box 360 X clamp fix " and you should see what you need to fix your problem.
