Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

110.82980 top load washer (kenmore) agitates when it should spin. In the spin cycle the machine agitates, the drum rotates slowly wrapping the clothes around the agitator, the pump works OK.

The shift actuator in the gearcase is bad.
Replace the transmission.

It is much easier to replace the entire gearcase unless you are just curious or ambitious. About $110.00 for the complete transmission with all new gears.

Replacing individual gears requires a tech sheet for alignment and timing, etc. If anything is not done exactly correct you have to tear it down again.

They currently make only one transmission for the top load direct drive washer.

My clothes doesn't get agitated in the wash or rinse cycle. I don' t see how it can get my clothes clean this way

Need more info, what kind of washing machine do you have? I am going to assume you have a front load washer. There is no agitater, instead the drum rotates, as the drum rotates the cloths roll up the side of the drum. When they are almost to the top of the drum they fall and the weight of the cloths themselves provides the agitating action. I have been using a front load washer for years, wouldent think of using a top load. Hope this helps..

Kenmore 90 tub spins excessively clockwise during wash cycle.

Washer is not rotating fully during wash cycle

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Some Kenmore washers have a two piece agitator. The lower section will rotate back and forth both ways.

The top section has "agitate Dogs" that allow it to rotate only one way (to keep the clothes moving downward.

If yours has a two piece agitator there shouldn't be a problem.

Washer washes and wont spin clothes in either the wash or rinse cycle

If you have little to no agitation (as well as spin), look for a broken motor coupling (connects motor to transmission).
If the motor coupling is ok, open the lid and select a spin cycle, insert a flat screwdriver or pen into the lid switch and try pushing the drum along in a clockwise direction. If it doesn't spin or spins slowly then the brake/clutch assembly is slipping and will need to be replaced.
Good luck!

Series 70 prob: Recently started wrapping clothes around agitator

some fabrics are known to do that you have on wrong cycle setting there should be a setting for delicates and clothing and blankets and things when loaded to close to agitator will attract each other together so its wise when loading machine load in a circle leveled out till desired fullness away from agitator they shouldnt attract as much
