Change ip address

The IP address is configured through your DHCP server in your router. You're going to have to either look in your router for connected devices or use a tool like netscan.exe (free) to find the assigned IPs in your network, If you don't have too many connected devices, you can keep putting the IPs that are there into your web browser until the device page comes up. They SHOULD HAVE put a reset button on this thing, but they didn't.

Cable and ip address

A regular Cat5 ethernet cable will work just fine to connect it to the network. For an IP address there will be a networking option in the menu for the unit which will allow you to assign a static IP address to it. Just make sure that your router is set up to not hand out that IP address.

Good Luck!

DP-300 Print Server Access Problem

Using a print server like this, you should not need to "browse" to find the printers. See what ip address has been assigned to the printer. Once you have the ip address, open a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd) and type:
ping <insert ip address>
ex: ping 192.168.0.24

See if you can ping the printer from each of your computers. If you can, great, install the new printer by adding a "local" printer at a new TCP/IP port with the IP address of your printer. If not, then you may have some routing issues.

Are all of the printers connected to the same switch? Do you have multiple "routers" on your network acting as DHCP servers?

Hope this helps.

Nortel NetDirect error on Vista

Hi kt_rutherfor, Firstly apologies for my late reply. I thought that this was going to be a firewall problem, but looking at your error again, I now dont think that. So I'm afraid that I dont know the answer to this, I do have an idea, after researching the problem that this is a Remote-NDIS host problem. Your Uni should be able to help you with this even if it isn't at there end.

Again sorry for not being able to help

"share" it on your server, then on each PC go to "add printer", select "network Printer", browse your network, and select the printer.

Setting up my D-Link DP-301P+ print server

Print servers are typically controlled through a web interface, and do not need specific drivers. You can download the manual and installation guides here. You may need to change the default IP address; look at the section on Networking Basics in the manual.

Setting up IP address on server

Download and install <a href="http://www.wireshark.org/download.html">Wireshark</a>.

After installing, click the first button on the toolbar to list available capture devices. Select the interface you use to connect to your network (wired or wireless card) by clicking the "Start" button next to it.

Power off and back on the print server. Watch the log on Wireshark, and look for the D-Link identifier under the "Source" tab. In the same row, it will tell you the IP address the print server has assigned to it. You can then change your computer's IP to be in the same subnet (match the xxx's in the address xxx.xxx.xxx.yyy), allowing you to connect to it.

IP Assignment....

No, a tranceiver cannot be assigned an IP address. It just converts the signal between two types of lines (fiber, copper, etc.). This is mainly used for connecting together networking equipments such as switches or routers.

Depending on the type of interface you plotter have, you may need a device called a Print Server. This device has an IP address and allows a conventional printer signal to travel through an IP network. If your plotter is designed to be connected using a LPT (Parallel) cable, like old printers, you may look for the D-Link DP-301P+ or DP-300U.
