First check the yam does play other sources of sound, e.g. radio or CD. Then try your ipod in another dock to check the Ipod is working.
Then check the manual for the Yam to be sure that you have set it to a mode where it will take in the signal from the IPod. Did you switch it away from IPod source to play a DVD or a CD or the radio?

Both docks will work with your receiver.

No it is not. TV out requires special cables that can be purchased for the iPod.
Testimonial: "What are these special cables?"
SOURCE: yAMAHA YDS-11 TO A RX-V459
Hi, as per yamaha site RX-V459 doesn't have the DOCK connector which is used by YDS-11 dock (or the bluetooth module). This is the only possibility to connect the YDS-11. YDS nor receiver don't have USB connector and they are not needed.
For example RX-V465 does have DOCK connector and supports YDS-11.
For your receiver, you can use only analog audio cable with your iPod.

I think it is not possible, because RX-V465 does not have HDMI-video processing. It can only pass-thru the HDMI video to HDMI-out, but not alter the signal in any way.
If it should support TV output with YDS-11, it will work only via analog video out (s-video / composite / component).

Yes, it is compatible.

It has 2 modes of operation. For RX-V465 you need to select mode B. In this mode it is compatible with YDS-11, which is supported for RX-V465. But iPhone is not officially supported in this mode. But I have found on Yamaha website FAQ, where they claim that iPhone switched to Airplane mode worked well.
