Re: Closed caption will not turn off on my TV even though...

Did you check your cable box or satellte box set-up? I thought I had the same problem on my Hitachi 46F500 but it ended up being my Comcast box was set-up to display closed captioning on the component video output ONLY. Hope this helps...

How do i turn off the closed caption on my toshiba 51h84 tv? i tried setting via the remote and changed the CC option to OFF but i still see the closed caption is driving me crazy!! help!

What is the source of your TV signal: Cable? Dish Networks? DirectTV? Antenna?
Many times the Cable/Dish Networks/DirectTV controller also has an option for closed captioning. Please verify that a controller is not setup to deliver the CC data.
Also, try setting the TV CC using 'C1' or 'T1' and selecting 'Enter' to accept the change; then come back and set CC to 'Off' again to see if toggling on/off helps.

TV picture is there with a large black box in the middle.

This is a common symptom and can be fixed very easily.

Just go into your menu and turn off closed caption.
The way you can test if it is in Closed Caption Text mode is that when you change the channels the black box will not appear right away but it will take some time to show back up.

All that needs to be done is turn off the Closed Caption (CC).
You may even have a CC button on your remote, that will make it much easier.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Sounds like the closed caption option is active.Check your remote to see if you have a button labeled"CC" that would turn it off and on. If not go into customer menu look for closed caption option turn it off. If you have a cable or satellite box they may also have closed caption option that you can turn off.

A black box sometimes appears on my tv screen. can you tell me if this is from having the closed caption butten on and why it happens?

Yes, if the closed caption mode is turned on in 'text mode' the set will display a black box even when no closed caption text is available. the normal closed caption mode is cc1. try turning closed caption to cc1 or off. tech7

Get closed captions on some channels, but not all, even though it is CC

RCA have choices for different methods of CC in user CC menu. Labelled T1, T2, etc. . Different selections are for different types of close caption. Tune to a signal (on your other TV) that has closed caption working.

Tune your RCA to the same signal. Change the T1,T2, etc settings until the closed caption for your signal appears.

If this doesn't work, try connecting analog video or VHF channel 3 (or other specified channel) to the TV. check CC. When TV stations, sat channels, sat receivers, cable boxes etc, convert analog video signals to HD, problems can result. Some equipment causes RCA TVs to do unexpected things with sound and closed caption.

If you use RF or video output, old analog video may look better on CH3 or video than on HD input and the CC will work more consistently. Watch HD signals on HD input, Analog signals on Video in or through the TV tuner . Many HD channels and programs are converted analog video and look poor on TV HD inputs.

Insignia TV and Direct TV Remote issue - cannot get the closed captioning turned off

The TV slowly, all by itself, ran closed caption on the major stations.
Unable to turn off through the menu as that option was greyed out.
Now all channels have this unwanted closed caption.

Any similar problems and ideas.

Thanks, Harold

Close captioning

Well lets try the simple things first, Go to the TVs menu using the original TV remote and find the icon or menu that says Captions, in that menu turn all the closed captions OFF. Second there is a button on the original TV remote that says format, push this till you get to a screen that says FULL in the upper left corner. That should resolve your problems, If closed caption still comes through then we need to know if this set is hooked directly to cable or goes through a cable box. It sound like you simply had the closed caption turned on and the screen in one of the zoom formats this TV provides
