Question about Epson Perfection 4180 Photo Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Awful noise My scanner scanned one page and made an awful noise at the end of the scan, like grinding or something. Now it will come on, but when I push the button to scan, it starts scanning and then immediately, the indicator light that is normally green starts flashing red.

Re: awful noise

Please try the following to resolve your issue:
1. Unplug the USB cable and the AC adapter from the back of the scanner.
2. Toggle the Transportation lock (the plastic switch at the back of the scanner) back and forth 5 times, ensuring that the lock is all the way in the unlock position.
3. Reconnect the USB cable and the AC adapter cable, and then try to scan.

The scanner works but makes a grinding noise that is getting worse

Normally Canon scanners work well for long time, Change the pickup rollers for every 250,000 pages and check other rollers for every 500,000 pages. In case you have been scanning documents with quite a good amount of dust, you may need to check at an earlier interval. Replace any worn out roller. Check if the small bearings at the end of each roller is perfect. Clean thoroughly all the rollers, dont use solvents. S. Mohan, Chenna, India

Scanner pulls page in to just past the bottom sensor lever

Please ensure that the rollers are clean and within its life span. (Rollers wear out and need to changed after 250,000 pages or as recommended by mfr). FAn the pages before scanning, Ensure the edge is trim with no folds or bends. The griniding noise is because the scanner has picked up more than one page.

Grinding noise

The most common problem is that the pulley breaks, you might be able to see it through the glass. looks where the belt goes, and see if the pulley is broken.

also, some people forget to unlock the locking mechanism when the unit gets moved, the locking switch is on the side.

Grinding noise

There is usually a slide type button somewhere around the outside of the scanner and it usually has a lock & unlock sybol on it. You may want to make sure that it is slid totally in the unlock position because it could be getting caught inside once in a while if the button is say half way between lock and unlock... Hope this helps...

Why does the scanner hesitate when feeding the paper through the scanner and gives a scanned double image at the top of the page?

Is there a gear grinding noise associated with this? If so, call your local dealer for service. If not:Clean all the rollers you can reach with a cloth dampened with alcohol. Check for any obstructions in the paper path like torn paper, heavy toner buildup on guide plates or the edges of the scanning glass, or any paper guides obviously loose or out of place.
