Question about HP OfficeJet 9120 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP 9120 Constantly aligning printheads

My HP 9210 is constantly aligning the printheads. Have to turn it off to make it stop. After I replaced the black ink cartridge this happened. Have never replaced the printheads. The color ink cartridges are expired, but I backdated the machine so they would be okay.

We've had the printer for about 4 years now but it is now and has always been rarely used because it is so incredibly slow. We were a victim of false advertising, said it would print and copy up to 22 pages per mintue color and 25 ppm b&w--in what universe that would happen, I don't know.

So, I know you said to replace all the printheads and the expired ink. That's $300+ to do that. Do you think it would be wiser to first replace the expired ink cartridges to see if that stops the printheads from constantly aligning? Or does all of it need to happen to stop the constant aligning?

Hi thanks for using fixya!

I recommend that you should replace the printheads to anew one. And you have replace the color ink cartridges as well. If you have used an exprired cartridges, it will result an error to your printhead. Always make sure that you always change the ink cartridges whenever it is required and if you are frequently using it heavily. Backdating the machine is helpful, however it will be more efficiently if you replace the printheads. By the way, how many years now your are using your HP printer? Did you had a chance to send it to any HP Service Center for maintenance as well? I recommend to my clients if they are heavily using or not the machine, it should be always be maintained every 6 months.

If you need further assistance, let me know.

Yes, definitely, as I mentioned earlier, you shoud change your ink cartridges whenever it is required. The expired inks won't help at all. The printheads keep on aligning due to the error, as you know the printheads has its sensor, to detect whether you need to change inks or if you are using fake ink cartrdiges. If the cost of changing the printhead and the ink cartridges is not practical but instead of buying a new model of printer that suits your work.

The piggy back plug connected to the switch that turned the pump on and off. It sounds like the pump now cnnectes directly to the line without the switch in series with it.

Replace print heads. How?

REPLACING HP PRINTER, PRINTHEADS

Follow these steps to replace the printheads in your printer.
  1. Press the Power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the printer.
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Press and hold the Resume button (c01219285.bmp ) until the carriage moves to the left. CAUTION: Be careful not to proceed until the carriage is on the left side of the printer. If the carriage does not move to the left automatically, turn the printer off and back on and then try holding down the Resume button (c01219285.bmp ) again. The printhead can be damaged if the carriage is not all the way to the left for installation.

You should call HP and tell them you need a new printhead. There is a feature in your priter software or in the menu to clean printhead. Try a deep clean.

OfficeJet 9130 all-in one

I updated the HP 9130 firmware and encountered the same problem. I turned off the printer, removed all the printheads and the cartridges, closed the printer cover and then turned on the printer again. After seeing an error message on the printer screen concerning the missing printheads, I opened the printer cover, replaced all of the missing printheads and the missing cartridges and then closed the cover. The printer then aligned printheads once as is expected after replacing the printhead and cartridges. Thereafter, it worked normally. I do not know why this procedure worked and if it will work in every case, but for now, it seems to have worked for me.

Adjusting printheads - won't stop and keeps printing blank pages

Hi Did you have any print jobs sent to the printer before replacing the printhead. It seems that the printer is trying to print a job and since the usb cable has been disconnected and reconnected the printer is printing blank pages or misc text.
