Gateway laptop screen is black?

When I boot up my laptop you see the Gateway logo and the bios info then the screen goes black and you see nothing? I tried connecting and external monitor and it's completely black also? The computer is on and you can hear the fan running and everything just no screen?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you!

This could have several causes, including malware installed on your system, but is frequently the result of some kind of hardware driver conflict. Have you recently installed any new hardware or software to your system? If so, disconnect it and try again.
The black screen is an indication that the windows os is not booting onto the system. If you have the recovery console installed, or have the cds, you can run the recovery console to troubleshoot or repair your installation of windows. This procedure is different for xp or vista, so we need to know what os you're on, as well as any error messages you see when it fails to boot.
To begin with, try tapping F8 as it boots up and see it you can get into the OS options screen, then choose Last Known good configuration to boot windows.
Here's a great article to help you troubleshoot the situation, then let us know how it goes and what comes up..

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

ps Gateway support online has frequently got some pretty good resources to troubleshoot your exact model, but you need to enter the serial number to get access to it...You might want to check their recommendations before launching off on your own...

Boot screen

Try these two things:
1. Go to your BIOS setting by pressing F10 immediately after you switch on your notebook, then select your HDD as your First boot drive and then save changes and exit. If it does not works then follow step 2.
2. Reinstall/freshinstall your Windows OS with a windows OS disc.

Black screen won't boot

From the description it is the motherboard that has major issues, sub out the ram memory one at a time and test each, If there is no change! the motherboard unfortuneately is the problem, only option is to replace board or laptop.

HP compaq evo 610c after booting only compaq logo appears and then screen goes black.. I have connected a external monitor, it is working fine

Restart the laptop, hit F10 to get into the BIOS. Arrow over to the Advanced menu and then down to Device options. After or before the "USB legacy support" option, there may be a external monitor setting. If it is there, change that, as it may be set to only work with an external monitor connected. After making changes hit F10 to accept.

Arrow over to the File menu and to "Save changes and exit". Reboot. Try that, if it doesn't work, re-enter the BIOS (F10). Arrow over to the File menu and to "Restore defaults". Then "Save changes and exit". Reboot.

When I turn on my netbook the screen is black after the Gateway logo screen pops up. How do I fix this problem? I was in the airport and just closed the netbook not actually shutting it down and now I only...

You can try check if you have any special function keys on your computer that allow you to disable the screen image or simply put it to another output port. Just like you would do if you would like to connect you pc to and external video projector.
I had similar problem with my netbook, and on my case a BIOS update solved the problem.

The screen goes very dark within a minute after booting up = I can just barely see the menu page

When you say screen goes very dark when it booted to windows so it means that when you turned on the laptop when the dell logo flashes the screen was fine? if thats the case could you please try this. after turning on the laptop you will see the dell logo flashes immediately keep tapping on F2 and then it will show you the BIOS setup utility, please check if in BIOS setup display goes dark as well. If yes then try this, after turning on the computer when dell logo flashes keep tapping on F12 to boot menu then select utility partition to run the diagnostics. Please run test on the LCD check if display goes black when running the LCD test. Then try this when you sees the dell logo keep tapping on F8 to boot in safe mode check if in safe mode display goes very dark. Try this too, boot in F8 then select last known good configuration check if the settings on your display will be fix. If you can boot to safe mode no problem then uninstall the display or video driver. then restart computer.
You can also try to connect an external monitor if you have one just try to isolate if issue is on the LCD or the video card. If the display is dark as well in external monitor then video card needs to be reseated if fails then replaced. In situation like this most video cards is integrated to the motherboards. So replace motherboard.

Gateway laptop 450 rog

be sure to circle through possible screen.
use FN key + a key with a screen symbol on your keyboard (or check your doc) to switch from main screen to external monitor and back.
sometime some techies use external monitor for pc final test and forgot to restore configuration to laptop screen.
At restart XP is expecting the last used monitor and nothing shows on laptop screen.
try also connecting any external monitor to vga plug.
let me know if is fixing
