Question about Toro Garden

Toro proline 220 20 hp engine, onan engine, will not stay running after the engine gets warmed up. after it stops and cools off it will start and run perfectly for minutes or up to an hour. I cannot figure out what is wrong, can you help?

    unit has new coil, and have ruled out fuel system problems. mower starts fine when cold, after warm up it stops, and there is no spark from the coil. the mower restarts and runs perfectly after cooling off, spark is coming from the coil and will run again until the engine is hot.

Well there seems to be some internal problem with it.Try to get it repaired by some mechanic.

I have same mower and just fixed what seems like a similar problem description. I had gone down the fuel system route and the symptoms just didn't add up. Stopped abruptly w/o sputtering once I reached warm-up temp. Replaced the solid state ignition (34443C now part number 3444D). Problem corrected and just mowed my 1/3rd acre w/ no issues.

    this is a very common problem with these toro mowers. the needle valve
    in the bowl of the carb. is plugged up with dirt or varnish from the
    fuel. just under the primer bulb there is the carb bowl. it has a nut
    under it that holds it on remove the bowl and make sure fuel flows
    constantly while the bowl is off. push up on the float to stop the gas
    flow. this could be messy and dangerous. careful with the gas. its
    flammable. best solution is to remove the carb and soak it overnight in
    a parts cleaner like gunk. caution small parts inside. this happins
    every year on mine no matter what i do. seems like the orifice is so
    small it clogs easily. good luck

    basically its a gasoline engine check for



    • spark & continuity in coil

    • fuel & passage of fuel

    • carburettor float check

    • worn out blade

    • fly wheel key

    • stale fuel

    • oiling up engine



      if the fuel line till manifold is right & spark is right
      the engine will start

Toro Proline 52" stalls out after warming up


Do you know if that unit has a fuel pump or not? If not, then engine vacuum is what draws the fuel in ... but only IF the hoses involved DON'T have any cracks or splits, and they fit TIGHT on the ports to which they connect! Try using an eye dropper and squirt a little gas in the air intake under the air cleaner. Does it fire then?

Engine starts but won't continue to run. Choke doesn't stay closed after starting. will stay running only if I hold choke closed manually.


let it warm up with choke closed manually after it starts to stall with choke closed open it and dont let it stall u can learn to play with the choke a little to get it to run right GOOD LUCK!

I don;t know what engine is on your mower but if it has the self contained electronic ignition coil I have seen happen on several engines. It would run good for several min. then the spark just stops . And it will not spark again until it sets and cools . Just make sure it is the ignition that is not working.

Similar issue - buddies CubCadet with Kohler Courage 22 would not stay running. Turned out the coils got rusty where it interacts with flywheel. cleaned the contacts (be careful to shim for proper spacing) and ran like a top.

Your carburetor needs cleaned,you had gas in it that you drained out and replaced with new ? What engine do you have tecumseh,briggs,? Engine will not stay running


Hi

When the engine stops check the spark at the spark plug.Check compression(remove the spark plug and ground the plug wire on the engine,seal the plug hole with your thumb.Operate the starter.If the compression preasure blows your thumb off the hole,the compression is adequate for the engine to run.Now priming the engine(put some gas into the spark plug hole,back the spark plug and try to start the engine.Let me know. savumihai71 regards
