Compaq laptop doesn't respond to mic (by 4 users)

I plugged in two different mics attempting to add sound to a power point presentation. Nothing, no sound records, just a doink where the sound should be...

dear sir,
we r able to hear people on skype with our webcam but people r not able to hear us.we have changed mike also and all settings are normal but microphone icon is showing sign of mute even when unmuted .we have a compac presario laptop in which thisproblem has occured.please tell us the solution as soon as possible.all settings we have checked and unmuted.

Hi, In cntrl Panl, go to sound & audio devices, there in VOICE tab, check(in Voice recording) if the system is using the exact sound device, then u can run the TEST to resolve ur issue.. let me know
