I've had this camera for about a year now, and I just recently noticed that my flash does not work properly. When the camera is on "Flash Auto," sometimes the picture turns out really dark or really bright. Also, when the flash is on, I noticed that in each flash, three to four discontinuous flashes occur. (Usually the flashes are continuous.) Is there a way of fixing this? If so, how? (I don't think it's because of my settings since they are normal settings.)

Re: Problems with Flash
Press Menu button togle across from REC Mode to setup togle down thrice from camera to setup 1 togle across into sub menu togle down from four times to Initialize togle across again to the sub-menu togle up from cancel to OK press center button to accept the OK choice Screen changes and so press okay again It should restart the camera Opening on the 'Clock Set' screen togle down to cancel and use the camera and make sure that you have the camera to flash, if it works try again in the Auto function. If it is still not working do not worry follow the steps again two or three more times, As this is generally a software error message and not a hardware malfunction. If it is working then don't forget to set your Clock.

I sent my camera to Canon service center and they have fixed the problem. Here is the repair note for this problem from canon. "We have examined the product according to your request and it was found that the PCB assembly was not properly connected the strobe could not operate properly. The PCB assembly was reworked. Other inspection and cleaning and parts replacement were carried out ". I have tested my camera and it is working correctly. One more information is that my camera more than one year old and warrantee expired on Dec 14 2008. I filed this claim Canon online on Jan 25th 2009 and it came out initial estimation as $0 and they did not charge me a penny. Hope this information will help you.
Same problem with the red flash icon. I can take a picture if I turn off the flash as well, but have to turn off the flash every time I open the lens. Have had the camera for 5 years and haven't had a problem. We needed to replace the lens cover recently and after we replaced the cover we started having this flash problem. It was working fine before the cover came off which leads me to believe we've changed our settings somehow....pleas
My problem is similar. Takes photo fine. Views most recent photo fine. Cannot zoom. Cannot regulate flash. Cannot scroll photos. Cannot delete. Essentially, all those buttons are non-responsive. I first noticed it with the flash. Can you do these other things? I think it is an internal failure. Just past one year old. Has been subject to tempurature change lately.
reseting and firmware upgrade will not help. Replacement of the flash unit is the only solution. Price for the flash unit is 50 Euro (for my account).
If you need more info, please advice.
