No sound is coming out

Look for a button on the unit or remote for turning speakers on end off, Or when you go into the unit menu, Watch with the functions if it stays something about the speakers, Turnig them on or off, If you don,t come across any of this stuff, Get a manual for it, End see if you can find any thing about it in the manual, In the trouble shooting (Section) If you don,t have a manual for it, Try manuals

When i play a dvd, the voices are muted. But all the background noise plays??

Hello, all of the vocals are supposed to be coming from your center speaker,it may be turned off(check the units menu) speaker might be disconnected.,volume might be set too low as each speaker has a individual volume control in the menu.

On my Sony Surround Sound tuner, if I raise the volume up to a certain level (not that loud), I get a flashing sign ''protect'' and the sound to the speakers are cut.

Sony has protection in these receivers for two main reasons.

1 - Checking for DC voltages on the outputs to speakers. Not your particular problem.

2 - Excessive current being drawn from receiver on one or more of the speakers.

Number 2 should be your starting point in finding a solution. Put the volume level on Medium - 35 to 40 on the front panel. Now listen to all you speakers in turn. Any scratching noise will indicate a defective speaker. Remove this speaker from the receiver output and check again if the set goes into protection on high volume.

If you could not find any strange noises on the speakers, remove them one by one and test the set on high volume.

Never - attempt to disengage the protection on this amplifier. The only times we have found the amplifier to be defective with this protection error, it has done so no matter the volume level. Therefore I believe your problem to be a speaker or speakers.

Good luck!

When I hook the system up. I an hear a humming or buzzing like noise in teh system

This is the bane of all home theater installations and its called the "60 Hertz Hum" Most likely coming from your cable company.. Simple test... Disconnect any Coax cables from the outside going into your cable box or tv. Hum disappears. Most likely this is caused by a "ground loop" problem.

The solutions are far and varied. Google "ground loop hum" to find different things to try

Buzzing noise

If the sound goes out completely, try hitting the mute button (to mute it) and then hit it again (to un-mute). I've found that this work-around typically gets it working, at least.
