Denon AVR788 has a clicking noise

Recently a lightning storm got several of my electrical components. The denon receiver comes on, but will not show video or audio when on hdmi 1 or 2. It does make a clicking noise, when I put it to fm radio i can hear the static through my speakers, that is only because i don't have an antenna hooked up. I have taken the cover off and looks like the transformer is shot. probably got to hot it melted some of the plastic. Do you think that if I replace the transformer it will work. I just bought this like 3 months ago, from circuit city. lucky me hah.

The clicking noise is the protection circuit that is kicking in and repeatedly shutting off the unit because an internal fault has been detected.
If the problem happened before a power surge, and the power supply looks damaged, then the PSU must be replaced.

If the unit is only 3 months old, better contacting Denon and having the one year factory warranty validated, rather than DIY.

See : Denon USA | WARRANTY or contact Denon for more info on your limitede warranty cover.
If the unit has been taken apart, this may invalidate warranty.

If you want to DIY you can find parts here, or from Denon.

Do not forget to leave feedback.

Thanks.

Denon AVR-3801 lights up,makes rapid clicking noises when amp tries to turn on. Clicking stops but unit doesn't play & sometimes the unit turns off. Occurred after lightning storm. What to do to fix?

Probably damaged by power surge. If you do not have experience diagnosing and repairing electronic circuits as well as having access to schematic diagrams then this is not a repair for you. Failure to replace all damaged components may result in damaging new parts.

Denon CD not switching on

The lightening causes a strong electro magnetic field to build up very quick and also break down. This pulse can induce a huge current in electronic equipment, causing damage in semiconductors.
The damage can be in any of the components in your Denon. It also could be only one semiconductor. FET's and MOS FET's are the most vulnerable.
Without a service manual, tools and the Denon on my desk it would be impossible to tell what is damaged.
But I would trust not any component in the player.
Also read ESD and what happens direct and what can happen when times goes bye.

Denon receiver just struck by lightning.

Any time a unit is hit by lightning, it is usually a total loss. While the initial problem may be fixable, other components have been stressed and are likely to fail. Most shops won't work on these units because of the likelyhood of continual failures. Warranties won't be given or the repairs. In your specific case, the switching IC has been damaged and needs to be replaced as well as the surround processing section. This is best handled as an insurance claim for replacement.

Denon avr 1802 died after lightning strike

I hate to be the bearer f bad news but it has been my experience , anything hit by lightening stays hit permanantly ..
You may find a few components on the quick scan of the circuit burnt or damaged , but you can guarantee that other components have been fried also .. It does enough damage to any electrical system when you get a 300v spike on the mains .. so imagine what approx 1/2 a million volts will do to a 12 volt radio ?? dont waste your money call your insuarnce company and claim for it ?. ... Lightning Storm/Affinity Washer

During a lightning storm, a lightning strike could have induced a high voltage surge in your incoming power lines. Left unprotected from these power surges, the weakest link ( normally low voltage electronic controls) are the most susceptable. Just because you had power available at the wall receptacle after a storm doesn't mean that your washer control system wasn't exposed to one of these surges and got damaged. On the contrary, it is extremely likely that the washer took a 'hit' and was damaged.Other devices plugged into the same receptacle may have survived that hit because electricity travels the path of least resistance.. In this case.. that path may have been thru your washer.. My point being is that your washer could have sustained a power surge and was damaged so don't rule that out. Of course, that surge could have taken an internal fuse or other component out too..
