Question about Garden

Starts but won't speed up enough to run

I have a kawasaki hedge cutter. Single sided blade. (approx 30") Engine number 466734 code TG018D-BF92. It starts and begins to run but will not pick up when throttle engages. Just doesn't speed up. Blade is free enough. Is there any manuals which can be downloaded anywhere? I've tried running with the air intake cover off and is appears to spit fuel out whilst running. Any advise would be greatly received, thanks Dan.

Thanks managed to get very significant improvement. I think that what ever caused the blockage may have be due to poor combustion so will now clean carb and reset, runs for longer but still stops short of cutting speed.

If this is a 2 cycle engine the problem could be that the exhaust is clogged. Most 2 cycle engines have a spark arrestor on the muffler which clogs. could also be the exhaust port from the engine. remove the muffler and check it out.

The cutter action is jammed

Ensure blades are sharpened. If there are burs on blades they can seize.
Blades should be lubricated with WD40 , waste oil or other lubricant.
The bolts holding the two blades together shouldn't be too tight.

Thihl HL75 hedge trimmer engine will not run at full speed

Remove the cutting attachment, insert a screwdriver in to the shaft receptor and it should operate smooth with a slight bit of friction. if not then check the blade bolts and make sure the blades move freely. Lubricate the blades and the gearbox regularly. If the attachment end is good then turn the driveshaft by hand (with attachment still off shaft). If this too moves freely then go to the clutch.

Long reach hedge trimmer

Try loosening the bolts up on the blades just enough to allow the washers to move freely a little, spray the blades down (but don't soak them ) with WD40 to lubricate the blades, that should solve it. If that doesn't do it then you may need to pull the gear housing cover off to see if something is jammed.

Ryobi 18V Hedge Trimmer Blade Question

I use a dremel with a sharpening stone, if u don't have one you can also use a power drill with a small sanding disk (1 inch) and course sand paper (30 or 40 grit). or you can use a bastard file. its too tight to use any kind of angle guide so just take your time and do it by eye. it shouldn't take much to get them sharp enough to do the job, over-sharpening is unnecessary and dangerous, and will make the blades dull faster. sharpen all the free blades, top and bottom, then start the trimmers to advance the blades to free up the sides you couldn't get. i use a light penetrating oil to clean the blades first, then lithium grease spray to lubricate.

Blade length problem

Hedge trimmers cut using either a single-action, where only the top blade oscillates, cutting against the stationary lower blade, or a double-action where a pair of double-sided toothed blades that slide back and forth at a high speed so you can sweep across hedges in both directions. The latter are more efficient. Blade length Consider the size of the hedge you will be cutting to get the right length blade. The longer the blade length, the more area it can cover and the quicker it will get the job done. However longer blades also require more power and larger heavier motors so weigh up blade size versus ease of use. Blade lengths range from 14 to 30 inches with long blades of 22 to 30 inches providing extended reach for taller or wider hedges. Blade width The blade width indicates the space between teeth and the maximum thickness the trimmer can cut through, eg. 20mm blade width will be able to cut through a maximum 20mm branch.
