Thank you but I solved it another way. I found many posts that people wanted to install xp but I said to my self "Vista is ok" Has SATA support built in, has 64-bit on my version that came with my laptop and lastly windows 7 is coming out before october 23 of this year (2009). So why not keep Vista, on.

So the solution is first install the microsoft OS you want next the version of linux load on but when it sais something about the boot loader reright to the MBR (Master Boot Record) right to the partition! Should Work after that. The problem is that windows wants to be in control of the MBR and have its own boot loader so if you install it on first reright the bootloader on the partition of linux and linux will just add it self to the MBR. So Linux and windows can live on the same machine what a thought. P.S. Works with any Microsoft OS.

Hi,

DV7 is not designed for XP, to get around the issue you may be able to change the BIOS setting for the SATA controller to work in IDE mode(depending on the BIOS) or you can use the XP installer option to install a SATA/RAID driver during the installer boot sequence. To offer you this I will need to know the model # and Serial # on the white sticker on the bottom of your laptop or the make and model of the SATA controller.

Try the Bios option and reply back with the requested info if it's not a viable option and I will see if there is an XP driver available for your controller.

I can't install Windows Xp Sp2 For Compaq Presario Cq60 Model. a blue screen error occured after completing the files from cd to ram before entering lience agreement

You need to check your system ram or memory. If you have 2 system ram or memory unplug the other memory and install the windows xp sp2 again. If still having a blue screen try the other memory then run the setup again. Also if you have an extra hard disk drive you can test it that or plug your hard disk drive to the other laptop and run the windows xp sp2 using your hard drive. If you can install the windows xp sp2 on the other laptop that means your hard disk drive are good. If your memory and to the other laptop are compatible plug it and run the windows xp sp2 installer to see and to diagnose what are really causing problem. Have a nice day.

Check whether you have installed the SATA Hard Drive driver using a Floppy disk. Some Computers needs SATA Hard Drive Driver before installing the Windows XP. Try using Windows XP SP2 disk.

SMART failure predicted on hard disk 0:

There is a big problem with newer conponents and Win XP versions prior to SP2. Especially with newer motherboards.

You have to make a bootable SP2 disk if you don't already have one. To do this use the slipstream proceedure specified on the Ms website. Many other websites describe the process with easier language.

Slipstreaming is a common practice now. Essentially, you copy your original install disk to the c: drive then download SP2 to C: drive then download the slipstream utility from MS. Running the slipstream utility then inserts the proper drivers (ide and HD drivers too) into the licensed copy you have. You then create a bootable disk from the slipstreamed files you have.

This approach is resolving alot of blue STOP errors and SMART errors.

ALSO, you want to make sure you are installing any drivers provided by the MB manufacturer AND Drive maker.

Good Luck

BSOD when not doing anything

Typically this is a driver issue. See if you can start Windows in "Safe Mode" and look for conflicting drivers. The Windows SDK will help determine the BSOD issue if you copy the information doen. The SDK's are avaialble from Microsoft.

Windows os

Its true. the Bios or HDD driver wont allow you to install Win XP on it.. This BIOS is compatible with only Win Vista. The only easy way to do it is by creating 2 partitions while installing vista. once vista is installed- install XP with Dual boot and than format the vista partition.
