Ubuntu remix , some things wont work now

At last I got something to work .I went to http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-ubuntu-netbook-remix-install/ and installed Ubuntu Remix 9.04 on a 1gb flash drive . IT WORKED and I now have an Operating system again but of course I lost all my Photos , Music , Files and Settings . I’m hoping someone here can just help me with a few minor problems that ive came across .
1 . How can I Back up everything so I don’t have to reinstall everything again if I have problems in future including downloaded Programs and files and settings .
2 . The wireless light no longer lights up to show that its finding a wireless network .
3 . Limpus Lite that came pre installed would automatically connect to my Net gear Wireless router without me doing anything , now I have to left click on the top and select it manually although it’s the only one listed and shows its already been recognised .
4 . I downloaded Limewire and can find it but the advice from
http://www.unixmen.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=96:howto-install-limewire-on-linux&catid=1:linux-tutorials&Itemid=2 was to install it with the Ubuntu Package installer , WHERE IS IT ? I only got Synapic and when I click on the Limewire file it says open with Gibie ?
5 . CAN Freecall or any other VOIP telephone system be installed on the system .
6 . The recorder dosent work either via the built in mic or a plugged in mic , just gives a clicking sound when I playback .There has to be a way to fix that or they wouldn’t have included it as standard pre installed .
7 . Where can I see a tree like schematic of the components of a system , im confused with all the diferent names , I want to know what is what , i.e. , Linux , Fedora , Ubutu , Deban , im not even sure what I have other than Linux Ubantu with Firefox .

How do I format hard drive with Ubuntu 11.10

Download and burn Ubuntu iso file from www.ubuntu.com to either a cd or a usb. Boot from your cd or usb and select the way of installing you want. You can choose between installing ubuntu along windows, erase everything and install ubuntu on entire hard disk or an opportunity called "something else" that lets you manage all hard disk partitions yourself.

I don't think you will find a recovery CD but Linux is free to download is suggest using pen drive linux (link bellow) to get the OS you want and the tools you need to make your boot media

I have an ASUS netbook that runs linux. I don't know linux, but was told to upgrade to ubuntu. I don't know how. Anyone know how?

1. I would suggest finding out which model Eee PC you are using and the hard drive size & type (4GB SSD, 160GB SATA, etc...). If you have less than 4GB, I would probably recommend using another Linux distro, as the Netbook Edition of Ubuntu is pretty heavy.

2. Next, I would probably suggest plugging in the Eee PC (Software/OS installation is very power intensive).

3. Download your distribution (Ubuntu Netbook Edition or Desktop, etc).

4. Download a copy of unetbootin for your PC (unetbootin.sourceforge.net -- There are Linux & Windows versions available.)

5. Using a USB thumb drive (USB Memory stick), you will want to wipe the drive (format using FAT/FAT32 filesystem).

6. Run Unetbootin, selecting the proper USB thumb drive & ISO image from the Ubuntu website.

7. After Unetbootin is finished, close it and safely disconnect the USB drive.

8. Next, plug the USB thumb drive into the Eee PC.

9. Turn on power to the Eee PC & after seeing the initial BIOS splash, hit the ESC key on the keyboard. This should bring up a boot selection screen. Using the arrow keys, select the appropriate USB drive and hit Enter (Return).

10. If all goes well, you should be running Ubuntu Desktop/Ubuntu Netbook Edition as a live desktop. (The installer is a link on the desktop.)

11. There are several step-by-step guides out there, so check them out, if needed. The installer should be very simple on this type of hardware, etc.

Good Luck!

Netbook hard drive problem

Please login to the Computer with the Windows Operating System. Now, open the Disk Management window. Click on Start and select Run. In the Run command box, type Diskmgnt.msc and press Enter.
In the Disk Management window, you can view the 66 GB allocated space for Ubuntu. Right click on 66 GB space and select format. Now, you will get free space for Windows only.

My Acer Inspire one Has Linux Lite installed how do I Install Ubuntu from a USB key. I am a total Newbie to Linux

This will not be very easy if you are new to Linux. However, I will provide the instructions for preparing the live USB. I assume you are working on your Aspire with Linux Lite installed.
The same instructions apply for Windows, though will you need UNebootin for Windows. I advise you to carry out the task from a windows PC, as it will be much easier from there.

You will need:

A USB flash drive with 1GB space.

A high speed broad band connection.

Ubuntu live CD ISO file. Download it from here.

UNebootin. Download from here. (Download the version for Linux).

Note: If you already have the Ubuntu Live CD then it will save you the download. Make an ISO image of the CD and put it on the desktop.

Now you have to follow this procedure:

Run the UNebootin.

Connect your USB flash drive to your laptop. Take into account the drive letter.

UNebootin has a self explanatiory GUI. You have the choice to download the ISO from this program or to point to the ISO image you downloaded previously.

Choose your USB drive letter from the drop-down list within UNebootin.

Now it will copy the files to the flash drive.

Next you have to set the BIOS to boot from USB drives.

Insert the newly created flash drive in the port and boot from it. The Ubuntu installation should start.

Linux installation is just like that for Windows.

The os is to frustrating linux is not for me ..xp is what I want .need to get linux out then install xp.

The particular model of Asus is apparently pre-loaded with Xandros Linux operating system.

It appears that you are not familiar with Linux and hence the apprehension and feeling that a shift to XP would be easier.

Why not give Linux a try ? There are a good many websites out there which go through the basics of using a Linux PC. Try them out, by spending some time in learning - you will get far more satisfaction and become more productive in using your laptop.

Some websites which might be of assistance to you are listed below:-
