1998 Harley Davison Evo starter boggs down when trying to starten

Just enstalled a new eccel high torque starter and a new 100 cca battery. I have a 98 superglide with a rev-tech 110 ci engine. when I push the starter button the bendix engages but will not turn the engine over----if I hit the button again it may turn over one rev---and sometimes it will start the engine. I used the (old) original starter gear assy.

Do you have commpression releases on your motor if not you may need to in stall this will ease the stress off your starter and your motor will turn over easier if you do have the releases not sure what you may need to do without hearing the drag to determine if gearing is issue

!982 Bobcat/skidsteer 643 wont turn over, jump it and it starts up,new starter, cleaned all conection

Might check to see if the battery CCA (Cold Cranking Amp) rating is high enough. Often when people replace batteries, they opt for a lower price one which usually is also a lower CCA rating. If that is the case, your new battery simply doesn't have enough ooomph to turn it over. Jumping adds another battery in parallel which boosts the overall CCA rating. - Good luck!

Harley torque specs

Factory Evo lifters have a range of adjustment/compensation of a little over .200 of an inch. Your aim is to set the pushrods to run in the middle of that range. Screamin Eagle pushrods use a 24-pitch thread, which lengthens them by .041 n change per turn. Set the pushrod in place with the lifterer all the way down, adjust to zero play, then extend it by 15 flats of the hex, to a total of 2-1/2 turns, extending the pushrod .100 of an inch. This puts it in the middle of travel of the lifter, and you're on to the next! Remember to allow plenty of time for the lifters to bleed off oil between each rod adjustment before turning the engine, to avoid bottoming out a valve. Adjust one at a time, 10 minutes wait time between each pushrod is a good rule of thumb. Ride safe!

Replace the starter solenoid. The buzzing noise is most likely the coil in the solenoid.

The factory battery in my 2008 XL1200N is 200 CCA, would it damage the starter or anything else by putting one in that has 310 CCA?

No, If it is a fit, all will be well. The larger capacity in CCA's is a good thing, but usually comes in a physically larger battery. The CCA's are a performance rating of the Cold-Cranking Amperage of an automotive type battery which is the amount of current a given battery can deliver for 30 seconds at zero (0) degrees F without dropping below a specified cutoff voltage. 1.50vdc per cell. The more CCA's the better. Also can be a length of time the battery will run a light and still maintain enough left over amps to turn the starter.

Need to replace starter cluch assy 99 Harley Davidson

Replacing the starter clutch is pretty straight forward. Simply take the starter apart, swap the bearings from the old clutch to the new one, and reassemble.

This is one of those places where a picture is worth a thousand words.
If you'd like blow up of the starter contact me a I'll scan the drawing in and send it to you. Make sure you tell me what you want. I get so many request that I can't remember all of them.

You have to pull the outer primary cover off to get to the bolts that hold the start on. Make sure you disconnect the battery.

2001 harley davison electric glide classic speedometer not working.

Hi Lfsvrjjj, always check your instrument fuse before performing the next procedure, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. Next check the connector to the speedometer for correded, broken or loose pins/sockets. If your problems still exist try replacing your ignition relay if your year and model has one. Good luck and have nice day.

Have a 2001 twincam that bumps hard when attempting to start.usualy let up and try again and all ok.any idea?

First, is the bike stock? I've seen a lot of bikes that had been hopped up do this due to a much higher static compression created by an aftermarket camset.

Next, take the battery out and take it to a local auto parts house and have them check the battery. If it's good, take note of the CCA, cold cranking amps. Make sure all your battery connections are clean and tight. You may can get a higher rated battery.

Ignition timing may be too high. Your dealer can check that for you.

If all else fails, a high torque aftermarket starter may be the trick. They're expensive by they will crank most anything over.

Engine boggs down when trying to go to pass geas

Still sounds like a transmission problem. Especially if it is revving up that high on RPM's and going no where. Sounds like slipping or something in transmission. Could be torque converter.

Harley davidson evo motor wont turn over...just clicks

Pull the spark plugs out and hit the starter. This will make sure that the engine is not locked up. If the starter does not turn the engine, put the bike in first gear and have someone push you, making sure the engine is free. If the engine is OK, your starter is probably jammed and needs replaced. That wire getting hot is a dead giveaway something is locked up tight...starter or engine. If ya have a large hi-performance engine in the bike, chances are your stock starter won't do the job.
