Question about AOC 9GLR 19" CRT Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor turn off and remains off for a while unexpected

Hi there, I have a CRT monitor AOC 9GLR 19", and after about 3 years of using I have a stupid problem. I'm also electronics engineer but I can't find the problem, but I think that with your help I could repair. Problem description: the monitor works perfect, but sometimes he turn off the the power led is not green anymore but orange. The problem is sure not power supply but something on the board because I replaced the box, and when I let the monitor to be laid on the board with the weight of the tube, the board bend a little and the monitor turns on again and remains on. Or when he turns of with no case removed, if I hit a little left or right side he turns on again for a while. Why this monitor turns digital off, I know that when PC video signal is missing also it must turn off, but I have 2 PC with no video card problem and the behavior is the same.thank you for your support,

    As much as with the back case replaced just hit a little the board the monitor turns on doesn't seem to be a problem with overheating. I think about a wire or something on the board, some track on the board. Or more probable the shield is not very well grounded. Do you have any idea what I can try?

    giving more info to you. How could be a wire as soon as the monitor is working and with no shake no touch nothing he turns off, the relay is making the normal noise for contact, and he turn back on after 10-20-30 min who know, nothing is precisely, also with no shake or touch the screed. I don't know what component could do this to me, maybe is the IC connected also to the power switch?

A high power component is probably overheating or a wire may be loose.

go in to monitor in the control panel and set the sleep mode time mode
probably better if you go into bios setting and click on computer start from any key movement
that way the monitor and computer go into sleep mode and that saves money on power and you only have to move the mouse or press a key and 10 seconds later the screen is awake and the computer is operational
I am typing this looking at an aoc monitor attached to a pc ;

AOC color monitor model 5En...during power on all led lights blinks then stops blinking without display action. all led lights on no more action observed.

actually if u repair an aoc monitor alone without getting connected to cpu once u switch on the monitor all led's will lit on ( green light ) it will remain on situation until u connect the vga connector to cpu that's the time led's will lit off and only the power led will remain in green condition.some aoc 5en once u power on power led is in green condition and if not connected to cpu it will be in orange condition.hope u get some idea but i am not sure if it will work with ur monitor. but as long as LEDs lit on i think no problem with ur monitor.

I am getting a burnt smell coming from the rear of the monitor. The screen flickers and you can hear sparks sometimes. Recently the viewable area has decreased greatly and the adjustments won't rectify...

these are capacitors that are burning. also, the resistors are really going threw major stress. i would remove the CRT monitor from the plug and, rebuild the power board immediately before a fire starts. This is a power board issue at the moment but, it will spread as long as power is still running threw the monitor.
