Re: shear pin ??

You most likely have several teeth broken off the drive gear that drives the cutting block. Not too difficult to replace but you need some special tools. A deep well socket (I think it's about a 3/8") to remove the cutting block and replace the broken gear. The gear should be available from a Fellowes dealer, or they might sell it to you direct if there is no dealer near you.

Let me know if this helps.

Motor runs but teeth do not

Some of these units use plastic gears on the shredders and motors. They can strip or it could be a shear pin on the drive shaft or gears that breaks when something hard is put in the machine.

Motor runs, shredder wheels don't move

Unfortunately if the motor is running but the shredder wheels are not moving you have probably stripped or broken a gear. Most of the time I have had trouble finding new gears for any brand of shredder unless it is a high dollar model. You might be better off buying a new shredder than trying to fix this one.

Motor runs but the shredder does not move. It appears jammed but we have taken out what paper we can.

If the motor runs but the cutting shafts do not turn then most likely a gear has been broken/stripped inside. You will have to open it up to see which gear and then contact the manufacturer for parts.

Paper is not grabbing - thus not feeding into shredder

Take a look inside at the cutting blades when it is the cutting shafts turn??? it sounds like they ARE NOT. If they are not turning but you can hear the motor running then you probably have a broken gear, or striped teeth on a gear. You will have to open it up to see which gears are the problem...then you can contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.

Gears won't turn in forward like a gear or shear pin is broken looking for a service manual

The plastic gears on either side of the drive motor have the teeth sheared off. I just have to find somewhere to buy the parts.

Shredder motor runs but won't shred paper. No

If the motor is running do the cutting shafts turn??? if not then unplug and open up the top to see if any gears are broken/stripped; give Royal a call at 1-800-524-0799 for parts and prices once you've located the problem.

160mx will come on but not pull paper

When you say the shredder comes on do you mean that the motor runs...if so can you see in the slot whether the cutting shafts are turning.??? If the motor is running but the shafts are not turning then you will have to open up the unit to see if you have lost teeth on a plastic gear...if so call Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.

Makes noise but won't shred

Had the same prob with a Schneider shredder. The roll pin that secures the nylon driven wheel to the blades shaft was sheared. Easy fix in a way but original pin was a metric size.

Fellowes 220c-2 gear or shear pin?

The Fellowes 220C-2 has a history of gear breakage. I've replaced dozens of them. Not a major operation. They're made of plastic and break way to frequently. Replacement requires that you remove the cutting block and it's held in place by 4 nuts threaded onto studs that require the deep well socket to remove them. I'd advise letting a professional handle it. The gear costs about $12-15 and most Fellowes dealers have them in stock.
