Question about HTC G1

1 Answer

HTC G1 dead, can't power on, factory reset/soft reset not working

My android G1 is dead - doesn't respondto power on. I have put it on charger for a couple of hours without any effect.
I've even tried both soft reset and factory reset without success.
This phone is not used in the US so I can't return it to T-Mobile :(
I'm not sure what the problem is - could be the battery is dead, but I haven't had any issues with it (apart from the ordinary short battery life when data, GPS are on).
As it is now it's a paper weight on my desk, and I'll be a bit hesistant about recommending a phone to anyone, even a power user - and I'm a pretty advanced IT user.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Can I replace the battery with any other HTC battery?

Well try to get your hands on either a second G1 phone or a multimeter to rule out a battery issue. If you take a charged battery from another G1 and it still doesn't turn on you will have a logic board issue. With a multimeter you can measure the battery directly, if the phones doesn't turn on if the voltage is over 3.7V, you'll have a logic board issue as well. Within one year T-Mobile should give you a replacement. If you can't get a replacement under warranty there is both an T-Mobile G1 Repair Guide and a third party T-Mobile G1 Repair Service, If you try a self-repair make sure you feel comfortable with opening devices that are not meant to be user serviceable.

Hi dc_anasela,
First off, you need to un-freeze your unit by taking the battery out and then putting it back in. You had the right idea in restoring the factory settings. You may want to try it again. Here is the recommended way of doing it: -Hold the HOME and POWER keys at the same time for about 20 seconds. -Press Alt+L after you see the Warning screen ( Yellow triangle with an Exclamation Point ) -Press Alt+W to do a factory reset. -Press the HOME and BACK keys again for 20 seconds to complete the hard reset.
If the problem still persists, you may need to contact the person who unlocked your phone and get the password from him. I hope it does not come to that. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

I am having a problem with my g1 screen, it was dead so it shuts down by itself then when i turned it on it has black screen. is there any solutions for this?

Can you take the battery out? wait for 15 seconds and put it back. Check it work or not.
If not, can you do the soft reset? the is the reset button on HTC.
Hope this will help.

My G1 Android will come on and show T-Mobile G1 then Android will come up but then the screen is blank? What can I do?

the best solution is to hard reset, follow the instructions bellow
1. Turn the G1 off. If it's frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.

2. Hold the Home and Power keys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle.

Now to wipe the device clean:

3. Press Alt+L.

4. Press Alt+W for a factory reset.

5. Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds.

The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.

My phone is frozzen

Hi,

It happens when the process is manfuctioned or corrupted. I advise to do a factory reset. To do so, turn off the phone, holdon the home button and press the power button. It will go to recovery console, now select "Wipe to factory setting", once finished, turn off the phone and restart. It should take care of the issue.

Thanks and regards,

It will then give you some choices, choose wipe out your memory to factory settings and it should work after.

I just dropped my Android G1 and now it won't turn back on. I took out battery and put back in but nothing. Is there any way to reset this phone?

There is a small hole on the bottom of the g1 where you charge it. Something small like a paper clip or something can fit inside and that will reset the phone to factory settings. Not sure if it will turn it on though...
