    Kevin,

Tried solution but no joy, and nothing seems broken, any other suggestions please, or do you know a repairer in the South Yorkshire area that I can take it to?

  • VALERIE MULLINS May 20, 2009

Sorry but your solution not really applicable to a word processor, there is only one overall connection to the electricity. This is a stand alone machine.

It is either that the "print" message is not gettint to that part of the machine, or, more likely the head is some how stuck and the printer ink cannot move.

    Any further suggestions, please?

I want to sell the word processor but cannot until fully working.

    Val

Sir,
Need to reset the printer. Is there any error message shown in screen? check out. Whenever the electronic goods which is not used for several months it will defect with dust and inside inner parts also. Better to clean the catridges, Clean the error if showing "waste ink tank Reset". Also if not showing to do so, reset the printer, Check the printer for clodge in any parts, clean the toner, clean througly the printer with the help of using the manual.

Hi there,

You must check this first before you go on conclusions:

Check connectivity. Checking the basics right off the bat will usually save you time and grief. Check to see if the printer is plugged into an electrical source. It could be that power is not being supplied to the printer at all. The problem may also be the printer cable connected to the printer and computer ports, so make sure all your connections are secured tightly.

Check your applications. Check to see if you can print from another application. If you can, then the problem lies with the original application, not the printer. Make sure that the application in question knows which printer it should be connected to. You can usually check this under the application's File menu. Under File, choose Print or Print Setup and then pick the desired printer from the selection presented in the printers list.

Let me know for further clarifications

I just inserted new ink jets into my Canon MP 490. When I request a print test page, it goes through the motions but the page is blank.

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

Have not used my Epson R1800 for almost 6 months. When I turn on the power the printer head, with the cartridges, stayed at the very right end, not moving. The paper and ink lights flash and the head just...

Your User's Guide is available here:

http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/r1800_/r1800_ug.pdf

After leaving the printer inactive for a extended period you should expect the ink cartridges to be dried up and the print head 'gummed' in place.

You will need to refer to page 82 of the pdf, Cleaning the Printer.

As part of cleaning remove the existing ink cartridges and while the cartridges are removed try and clean the print head of any ink residue. Note that if the red light is on or flashing above an ink cartridge the printer sees it as empty (dried up).

The print head will not move if ink cartridges need replacement; replace ink cartridges according to the red lights, likely all. Press the ink button to see if the printer will begin the charging cycle. If all is well the green power light will stay on and the red ink light will go out.

If you do not get this desired outcome try Cleaning the Print Head, page 73 of the User Guide. Hold down the ink button when the red light is off for 3 seconds. Run a nozzle check pattern; if nozzels are not printing a clean pattern, repeat this process up to 3 or 4 times.

Red Light for (ink) comes on.(Epson Photo R800)

Epson has a problem that if it stays for one month or more the ink dries and it wont print.
usually what i do is taking out the head and put it in some alcohol. for a day or two. the i blow dry it or leave it dry for two or three days.
take a straw and blow into the holes real hard.till it works . try it. it is not easy

Carriage cycles normally but no ink on paper.(Stylus color 880)

Turn off printer. Open Case. Move head carriage to parking position. Do suction from outlet pipe of head cleaning mechanic. It's for checking head. is there ink out? If printer not used for long time, may be ink inside head dried. Utility screen just show estimated not actually. If head clog, and do head cleaning more 5 times, screen show ink nearly out, but actually ink tank nearly full.

Epson C86 print head/cartridge head won't move.

Hi Beverley

There is some confusion here. You say "ink sponge needs replacing" in an Epson C86 (although you have your query posted under HP Officejet 5610!) - I presume you mean the waste ink pads. If so, you need to dismantle the printer - the pads are not under the print head but deep inside the case. I can provide all the information you need to complete this task if you really want to do it yourself. Please post a new comment requesting this assistance if you do.

HP L7590 black ink printing poorly even with new HP cartridge

I have had the same problem It is the print head not the cartridge If your printer is still under warranty have the printhead(s) replaced if not Open the unit where the print heads are and hold the OK button for 5 seconds. The Print head carriage will move to the left

Carefully remove the KY (Black & Yellow) Print head with a cotton swab and alcohol clean the contacts and replace the printhead. If this does not work remove the printhead and then with a spray bottle spray the nozzle area on the bottom (DO NOT TOUCH THE NOZZLES AS THEY WILL BE DESTROYED) HP techs have told me this will void any warranty so act accordingly I use a printhead cleaning solution available from most any online ink supplier

Replace the printhead after it has dried out (less than a minute). The printer will then go through an alignment cycle and should print I had to do this several times before the print head performed as it should

My 3820 will not move the ink cartriges to center for changing

If you power off the printer and raise the cover you should be able to GENTLY move the print head towards the centre but if it's not moving there is probably something else wrong if it's not responding to the button push or software request.

New ink in printer but will not put ink on paper.

It sounds like blocked nozzles to me, providing you're SURE you have good cartridges, properly installed (you did take the yellow plastic tapes off the vents before you installed the cartridges of course).

You can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If nothing, repeat the process once more. If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results

Installed new ink cartridges....printer won't print...

fixing cartridge problems can sometimes be easy and sometimes impossible.... first perform a reset of the printer... while the printer is powered on remove the cartidges ... remove the power cord from the printer tehn physically move the print carraige .... close the cover and power up the printer ... wait for the printer to request that you install the ink cartridges and install them. If this dosnt work repeat the same proceedure but this time clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the carriage. use a rolled paper towel (like a pencil) and bend it in half. Use distilled or bottled water and be very gentel... also avoid touching the ink heads on the bottom of the cartridges

Continuous aqua/turquoise color even with new cartridge

hey Karyn. The problem that I have experienced with printers with the same problem is a dirty head. Get the instructions on the printer and it will tell you how to clean the head. If after cleaning, still does it then you need to purchase a new head for the machine. Dont be afraid to tear into it. printers are pretty simple. Ink and ink head. If it prints at all it seems to be a dirty head. or worn out. Watch out using ink refills or off brands. Some inks are not very good quality ink and will ruin the head and void the warranty. Use the ink that the machine requests. Staples or Office Depot carries several types of printer heads. Good luck.
