What makes a perculator heat?

Hi, If you have a Farberware, Just look into the bottom of the pot. There you will see what looks like a hole in the pot. That is the high heating element, under the pot, when you go to make coffee the pump ( rod) sits into the hole. When you turn it on to make coffee the high heating element that the pump is in gets very hot and starts pushing the water that is in the hole to the top (that is called perking) the hot water goes over the the top and the drops into the coffee, This keeps going on until the thermostat feels it has reached 190 degrees or close to it and turns the high element off. While this is running it's cycle the keep warn is on helping the water to get hot, when the main element is off the keep warm element that runs around the bottom of the pot stays on all the time the pot is plugged in. Should the coffee get to cold the thermostat will turn the main heating element back on until it is back to 190. This system was developed by Farberware and a lot of makers copied it, But Farberware sold the pots and was known for a FAST and HOT cup of coffee. Farberware started making them in China and the pots are having a hard time keeping it up to American standers, and parts are very scarce.Farberware USA pots have been around a long, long time and are still going strong . I hope this helped you to understand how the pot works.

The water isn't fully coming out when brewing a cup of coffee and won't fill the cup. I am maybe getting 1/4 cup of coffee

Hello,

what you will have to do to solve this problem is that you will have to do self cleaning on the coffee maker

however, (not the bathroom one) is a handy item to use to clean coffee residue off the inside of a glass coffee carafe.
  • Does your pot have hard to reach areas? Use a wooden chopstick with a paper towel to get in there.
  • You can put ice cubes and a little water(enough so you can swirl it around) in pot and swirl them around, for harder stains put some table salt in pot and swirl it around for a few minutes and then rinse.
  • Put a glass marble in the water chamber to attract mineral deposits from hard water. Wash it once a week.
  • For tough stains, scrub the pot using a paper towel or clean (not soapy) dish towel. Rinse thoroughly.
  • To clean just the pot, do what many restaurants do. Put about two cups of ice, 1/4 cup of rock or table salt, and 1/4 cup of lemon juice (bottled or fresh is fine) and swirl around the pot. Measurements are not that important, just guesstimate. Be sure that the pot is cold before you try this, or you may break the glass pot.
  • Clean a brand new coffee pot prior to using it for the first time.
  • Never use the coffee pot to pour water into the reservoir. This will transfer oils and impurities from the pot, and eventually give the coffee a nasty taste. Instead, use a pitcher that is reserved for water only.
  • To keep the inside area around basket, filter, lid area clean (from coffee ground spatter) simply place a SECOND filter over the top of the grounds in the FIRST filter. Push second filter down so that spout will clear top of second filter (on many makes of coffee makers) as lid is closed. This keeps interior in pristine condition and doesn't take much time or expense.
Thanks for visiting our site good luck.

I have a bunn coffee maker that when it brews the first pot is hot after that the next one is not. It is the coffee maker that has two warmers on top. i didnt know if would be the heating element or...

While this brewer does have a reservoir that keeps a couple of pots worth of water hot for brewing you can get a cooler second pot if you brew directly after. You should hear the brewer heating up after brewing. Try waiting until it is back to temperature before re-brewing. If that heating takes more than a few (3-4) minutes then you probably have a problem with the heating element and the water is only being heated by the "keep warm" heater.

When I turn the on switch on to start the brewing process the blue light comes on and beeps..then goes back dark and nothing happens. No coffee for me. always worked great until this happened. No local...

I just bought a used one of these on ebay and started having the same problem. It worked 3 times in a row, then had the same trouble you describe. I think there is some sensitivity with the water level. I started with 8 cups, then added 2 more and it still didn't stay turned on. Then my husband said the previous pot shorted him 2 cups of coffee, meaning that 2 cups of water was still in the pot when I started it. So I dumped out all the water and tried it one last time and it worked right away with 8 cups of water. Try emptying your water, dumping it upside down, add new water, then plug in and turn on. Good luck.

Our church received a Bloomfield Koffee King model 8571 and no instructions on how to set up and use the coffee machine.

Hi, Get 2 pots place one under the spray head with the filter cone in....now fill the other coffee pot and start to pour water through the lid top front...keep pouring water through (about two and a half pots) until water starts to pour through the cone....now the tank is full plug her in and turn on the power switch at the back and also the front if there is one....place filter in cone..put coffee in filter...pot on burner...wait about 25 minutes until water in tank is hot...when light on front comes on pour another pot of cold water through the top and you will get a pot of hot coffee in bottom....I also think this machine can be hard wired into water main....get plummer to hook up...follow same procedure but instead of pouring water through top for coffee..hit brew switch. if it poors too much of too little you will find a timer in the machine you can adjust to allow more or less water...hope this helps.

Reset ge model 169165 electronic cleaning cycle

Unplug the coffee pot and push in the "1-4" and "TSB" buttons at the same time, hold the buttons in for a few seconds. This will reset the pot and you should be able to brew like normal after that.
