Dear BBB,
try this first...

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

enter or edit service tag numger...click on that and let the program to the right detect you tag number and it will tell you exactly what drivers you need for that particular computer.
I would save all of the drivers to desktop and then run them. In the first group of drivers there is in application an app called driver reset tool...that look interesting if you have any problem.
Now to answer your question, YES you can add a network adapter card to a PCI slot and it will trump the one on the board.

Yes you can always buy a cheap Ethernet card from any computer store near you, check the ethernet card from Linksys, Netgear, Dlink and other known networking device manufacturer...

If you have another computer available go to dells's website and download the drivers for this model to a cd or flash then take it to the 4600 and go to device manager if a network card is available right click and go to properties then update the driver directing it to the cd or flash that you just made....

HI,
When you remove the harddrive from a computer and plug it into a different machine though of the same model. It would not boot, because the operating system product key is unique to the machine. If you want to use this particular hdd in your home system, make it a secondary harddrive or reload windows on the harddrive again. But doing so , you would remove everything from the harddrive.

Windows Networking Issue

FIOS and DSL use different modems and or gateway devices. Sounds like you were using a DSL gateway device with networking setup and when you moved to FIOS, the tech did not duplicate your network on your new FIOS gateway. OR you had a 3rd party router e.g. Linksys that was removed from the setup when FIOS was installed.
Either way, Verizon is who you should contact. Just tell them your network went down after you moved from DSL to FIOS. Dont mention Microsoft or Livewebtv.

I bet you are using the phone modem that canme in your machine. You need to connect the Network card ( Ethernet Card) and make sure the drivers are working. Find it is System, Hardware, device manager, look for ethernet.
Connection icon and see if the netcard driver is installed.Connect the cat5 cable that was sent to you with the DSL modem box. It chould be a yellow cable... It only fits one way and in a maked plug on the DSL modem and into the network card in the computer. Everything there after should go automatically.

I think you just need to install the right drivers for the hardware:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Go to this link and it has all the drivers you need. If you need further help, let me help.
