Try the device on a different computer. or plug the device to the computer. Right click my computer/ manager/ disk management (left panel) & see if the device is there. If not you have may be a driver issue or the device itself is not working. ( you can rectify if the unit is having a issue when you plug it on to another computer)

Unable to detect my hard disk HM320HJ, after i m doing low level formatting using hdd low level format tool....

I believe low level formatting will leave the drive as raw. meaning there is no partition. You need to do an unconditional of quick format such as before installing windows. or install the drive in another working computer and access it through drive management witch will allow you to initialize and format the drive to an NTFS partition.

Dear sir, it,s sumit agrawal.my 2tb seagat company hardisk media is damge. so what his data may be recover

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this data recovery program to recover your files.

In Windows 7, you can use Disk management to detect and create a partition on this drive if necessary.
Steps: 1. Connect your external drive through a USB port.
2. Click Control Panel - System and Security - Create and format hard disk partitions (under Administrative tools)
3. Your drive should appear in the table below. Select the external disk and Right Click on it. You will be presented with several options (Create partition, Format, etc.). Select whatever is applicable in your case.
4. Your external drive should now be detected by Windows 7.

First, try and connecting the transcend 120Gb USB drive to another computer, if this computer can detect it as an external storage device and you can open the folders and files, then back up your data.
If this fails then there are companies that specializes in retrieving data from fault hard drives BUT be aware they charge a lot of money for their services. I suggest you do a Google search for these companies in your area.
There is a lesson here - NEVER have only one copy of your important data, important data should be backed up daily and at least on two sources.
You should consider fault redundant data storage. for details on such systems, please click on this link for more details :-

If the MAC formats the external hard drive then the desktop cannot see any files on the hard disk even though it detects the external hard drive.
If you format the external hard drive using the Desktop computer and format it in FAT32 then the MAC can read and write to this hard drive and the desktop PC can also read and write to the external hard drive.
MAC computers can read and write on PC formatted disks but not the other way around.

When i plug it in it keeps making a clicking sound and the light flashes and it will not open any documents stored on it

Hello,

Please note that: a drive formatted with FAT32 file system will not see NTFS formatted file system, whereas, a drive formatted with NTFS file system will definitely see FAT32.

To make it clearer, this means that, if on your system, your hard drive which is having the operating system installed on it, is formatted with FAT32 file system, and you bring an external drive, or even a backup drive which is formatted with NTFS file system, and you plug it to your system, the system will detect it but it wont be able to access the full drive capacity, you will just see it in the device manager page that it is connected.

But If it is Vice-Versa, the NTFS formatted drive will detect the FAT32 drive.

Now in your own case, if your system is formatted in NTFS file system and you plug in your external drive which is NTFS formatted also, then it means that you have some hidden partitions on your external drive, so when you plug it, try and do this:

Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.

On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your external drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.

If you see any other hidden drives there, do the same thing to it.

This should make your External Drive to be detected automatically.

Also Make sure that the USB port that you are using is a USB 2.0 port, and not USB 1.0 port, you can just try the other ports there, to be sure.

Hope this helps you out.

Goodluck!

Reformat my external drive to NTFS

The only risk associated with file formats is that a drive formatted with FAT32 file system will not see NTFS formatted file system, whereas, a drive formatted with NTFS file system will definitely see FAT32.
Now in your own case, if your system is formatted in NTFS file system and you plug in your external drive which is NTFS formatted also, from what you have said, I suspect that you have some hidden partitions on your harddrive (the 250GB), so when you plug it, try and do this, Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.

This should make your External Drive to be detected automatically.
