Problem loading an OS onto a Dell XPS One 2010

I have a Dell XPS XONEB8105 20in LCD Desktop without an OS. It does not have an OS installed. I am trying to install XP Pro. The CD/DVD drive will not mount the Installation disk (or any other disk). At power-up the final message displayed is: "ODD detect Failure" " Press F1 to Resume". Pressing F1 takes me to the Bios Setup Utility. The Boot option shows the SATA:3M-ST3250820A as the 1st Boot Device and Network:IBA GE Slo as the 2nd Boot Device. I do not see the CD/DVD drive listed. THe Hard Disk Boot Priority shows only the SATA:3M-ST3250820A. THe Boot Settings Configuration shows Fast Boot On and Numlock Key Off. Has anyone seen this scenario before? It seems as though the cd/dvd drive is not being recognized

I had a very similar problem with my XPS One. The Blu-ray drive would work for a little while and then the drive would just keep spinning, causing the computer to become unresponsive and not allowing me to eject the disc. Dell sent a technician to replace the Blu-ray drive, but upon doing so I got the same "ODD detect failure" error for the optical drive that is described here. The solution seems to be that either the ribbon cable connecting the Blu-ray to the computer is loose or reversed in orientation, as when the technician returned and righted the cable, everything works now.

    I hope this solution helps.

Beep codes on dell xps one 2010

If I understand your issue, it sounds like the display works fine until it loads Windows, and then it has the error? It sounds to me like the video card drivers are crashing. This may be the case if you have recently updated them, or installed a new video card. I would recommend getting the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website on a CD, SD card, or USB drive, and then boot your computer in safe mode. Once in safe mode, install the new drivers, and see if that will help. You could also try using your onboard (integrated) video card if your motherboard has one. This could help rule out if the monitor is at fault. Just make sure your BIOS has the integrated card as a secondary video device if it the (I'm assuming PCIex16) peripheral card isn't found.

Your link does not work. Also, I do not believe you may have understood the questions I was asking. I would like to know what I can do to be able to burn video that I have downloaded onto my computer...

If you dont have video burning capability, you will either need to get an external DVD burner or install a new DVD burner into your computer.
If the video is less than 700 Mb, you can burn a Video CD (VCD) onto a normal CD-ROM using a program such as Nero or Cyberlink.

Have a Dell XPS 410 with 32 OS. Want to upgrade to a 64 OS. Need info

With the 410, you will need much more RAM before having a 64 bit OS becomes useful. I assume that you have the default 2GB. In any case, all you need is to buy a x64 OS and install it.
