Check underneath mower to make sure shifter is working. If so, work brake pedal a few times. May be sticking. If not check brake adjustment located on right side of transmission when looking from behind.

Grass always gets caught in mowers. THis may help.

Turn mower off, detach battery.
Turn mower on side.
Clean grass everywhere you can clean grass.
Right side mower.
Attach battery.
Start.

Does that help?

Stuck in gear

I'd go to the junction of the linkage and the transmission and check from there. The transmission will have a lever or some sort of protrusion connecting to the linkage. See if you can move the lever/protrusion by hand, even if you have to disconnect it from the linkage. If you can move it, try to find neutral and reattach the linkage and adjust it so it corrresponds to the indicator on the shifter. If you can't move the lever/protrusion it's internal to the transmission and you are out of luck unless you're up to cracking open the transmission.

Car starts up fine, but will not change gear, won't reverse, neutral, drive, etc. what could be the problem, do i really need a whole new transmission maybe

Have you check the ****** fluid level? Even if it's run out it may still be fixable if you add fluid. Although likely cause is a bad ****** unfortunately. It's a huge pain to replace too. :(

Something else to try as well (assuming you mean automatic ******) is check if it will roll freely in Neutral but not roll freely in Park? It could be that the shift cable connecting your shifter to the ****** is broken or disconnected.

Transaxle locked in gear won't roll freely in neutral

Sounds like the pins in your brake caliper have gotten dirty and/or rusty and are not releasing all the way. When I had my shop, we found a lot of these and I or my mechanics pulled and cleaned them then took a drill 1/64th larger than the pin and ran it through the holes in the caliper, NO MORE PROBLEMS!
Check your tire pressures, too, if they are low it will be difficult to roll.

Hi..my name is Keith..and it sounds like the neutral rod on the back of the mower needs to come out further to fully disengage the transmission so you can roll it..it should have an adjusting nut on the rod..and i would turn the nut in a couple of turns until the lawn mower will roll..i hope this will help..if not please write me back

Tractor will roll in neutral but will not drive when put in gear. Will not roll when in gear.

I had a similar issue when I first got my tractor. the problem was with the linkage in the transmission just behind the lever you engage or dis-engage to make the mower roll freely ( on mine it is on the lower right, next to the rear axel- brassish in color ) what I noticed was when I changed to position of that lever the linkage in side didnt move all the way ( kinda like how a cars door lock/latch might stick) anyhow I was able to press the linkage forward by using a long-large standard head screwdriver in side of the notch where the lever protrudes thru the transmission ...the slight click in place cured my issue hth
