Model LSR8233EQ1 - Remove Agitator

In order to get to the screw holding the whole center piece on, I need to remove the top agitator part so that I can get a wrence or socket into the center. How does this top part come off? I got the plastic part protecting the bolt out, but can't figure the rest.

Also, where can I get a new o-ring for that plastic part, cheap? Emphasize cheap :P

Kenmore 80 Series does not agitate.

Hello, Welcome to FixYa.

The model and serial number tag will be under the lid at the back of the "lip/shroud" as you look from the front.

Based on your description, the problem is likely worn agitator dogs/gears. The new dogs alone part # 80040 or what I'd recommend, part # 285751 as a kit with new hub too. These are common and availble at most brick & mortar parts depot's as well as on-line vendor's.

You`ll need to remove the top of the agitator to replace them.

To remove the top cover of the agitator, it should lift off by prying up gently with a flat screwdriver or puddy knife.

Under this cap there actually is a screw/fastener,( bolt ) it just may or may not look anything like a typical screw. It could be a plastic piece with a square center and with the aid of a large flat screwdriver inserted in this location pressed into one of the corner`s in the square center (as to hold it still or turn it, I usually hold it still while turning the agitator) at the same time as holding the bottom of the agitator, turn it counter-clockwise and it will come loose. It may be the bolt style and in that case just remove the bolt and lift it out.

On Kenmore full size washer`s built by whirlpool there are one 2 types, ones with a 7/16" bolt holding it in place, and the type I described.

Thank`s for visiting FixYa. Good luck and let me know if I can assist you further.

The center part that adgitates does not rotate as i think it should can i tighten it somehow

You need to remove the screw from the center of the agitator and pull up on the agitator from the bottom , to remove it . Seperate the 2 piece agitator , and replace the 4 agitator " dogs " . Reasemble . The " dogs " lets the top section of the agitator only move in 1 direction causing the clothes to " tumble " . OR , take the complete agitator to a parts house and they will install them for you .

How can I remove the agitator inside my washer, there is no screw at the top and it wont just lift up and come off.

HI jescatlicea,

To remove the agitator on your washer you must first remove the top cover of the agitator, it should lift off by prying up gently with a flat screwdriver or puddy knife. Under this cap there actually is a screw/fastener, it just doesn`t look anything like a typical screw. It is a plastic piece with a square center and with the aid of a large flat screwdriver inserted in this location pressed into one of the corner`s in the square center (as to hold it still or turn it, I usually hold it still while turning the agitator) at the same time as holding the bottom of the agitator, turn it counter-clockwise and it will come loose.

Hope this help`s you to get your agitator off without too much agitation...;)

On Kenmore full size washer`s built by whirlpool there are one 2 types, ones with a 7/16" bolt holding it in place, and the type I described. They are by far the most common, although for short period`s in the past kenmore had full size washer`s built by GE as well as Frigidaire/WCI.

Thank`s for visiting "fixya". Good luck and let me know if I can assist you further.

I can't get top part off the agitator

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If you have a 2 part agitator assembly (Fabric softener dispenser, top agitator and main agitator)

First, push down on the ring around the bottom of the fabric softener dispenser and lift it off the agitator.

Pry the top cap (a short screwdriver into the slots in the cap works) of the top agitator.

Looking into the center of the top agitator, you'll see a plastic piece with a 1/2" square hole. Using a 1/2" socket set extension, unscrew the piece carefully. You might have to hold the bottom agitator in place while you do this.

The top agitator pulls up.

You'll see a bolt and screw holding the bottom agitator on. Carefully unbolt this one and the entire bottom agitator will pull up.

How do I remove the agitator from Whirlpool model LBR5133AW1?

Open the top of your washer and remove the cap on top of the agitator. It might be stuck, so you'll have to try turning it couterclockwise to unscrew it from the agitator.

There is another cone shaped cap under the top cap that you have to remove also. This might be stuck, so wiggle it back and forth to loosen it and pull it straight up and off. You can use a flat bladed screwdriver to GENTLY pry it up, if it's really stuck, but be careful so you don't damage the cone cap.

Once you've got that off, there is a screw or hex headed bolt that holds the agitator on the shaft. Remove that and the agitator should be able to be rocked back and forth while pulling straight up to remove it from the motor shaft.

There are other parts inside the agitator, but you shouldn't have to remove them from the agitator in order to remove the entire agitator assembly.

Here's a line drawing that shows your washer's agitator and wash tub to help you better understand the sequence and order of the parts involved. You can also use the searspartsdirect site to order any replacement/repair parts you might need, if you don't have a local appliance service center that carries them.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Cloth stuck under agitator in washing machine.

there is a bolt under the fabric softner dispenser (if you have one) if not, its a plastic cap on the top of your agitator which pops off by hand or a butter knife.. then there is a bolt under there that holds the unit down..grap the bottom of your agitator and loosen the bolt and remove it...then lift up carefully on the whole thing..careful not to loose the seal and bolt to put the agitator back in place....good luck..

Agitator gear is stripped

just place both feet on the agitator as it sits on the floor and lift up on the top half. there are plastic tabs on the bottom half that hold the two pieces together. you will need to remove the 2 tabs before putting the 2 pieces together. the bolt that you screw the agitator down with will hold the 2 pieces together. Noisy/loose agitator

remove the top piece of the agitator. this is a dispenser. then remove a cap that is at the center of the agitator. there is a bolt there that is holding the whole agitator. remove the bolt and you can pull out the whole agitator. be careful in removing, the thing could just separate to pieces and you may have a problem assembling it again.

Agitator-How do you get it off?

(Roper is actually made by Whirlpool) This is simpler than it sounds, just takes time and a few steps. Do you have a fabric softener dispenser that resides on top of the agitator? This dispenser simply snaps onto the top of the agitator. Some styles use a decorative cap. To remove the dispenser, simply grab it and firmly pull up. There is a cap that covers the bolt or nut that holds the agitator in place. To remove the agitator cap, insert a small flat-head screw driver into the seam between the agitator cap and the upper agitator (the part that moves). Use a twisting or prying action to pop the cap off of the agitator. Sometimes there is a little slot where you can insert the screwdriver. Look for it first. There maybe an internal debris cap under this: Inside the agitator you will see a cap with a raised handle. Simply reach into the agitator and twist the cap while pulling up. This will remove the cap and its o-ring. Removing the agitator: When looking into the agitator assembly, you will notice a single nut in the center of the agitator. Use a socket kit or nut driver to remove this bolt or nut from the agitator stud. Don't use plyers, it'll just mess up the nut. With the bolt removed you should be able to remove the agitator by simply pulling up. Twist back and forth CW & CCW when lifting. Some are a 2 piece design, so pulling up will actually remove either the whole agitator assembly or only half of it. If whole assy comes up and you may need to seperate the two for your new parts. Place the Lower Agitator on the floor and stand on the flat lip. Then Pull up to separate the Upper Agitator (mover) from the Lower Agitator. As far as your parts go I'm not sure where they go without seeing it myself. There is a spline or ratch assembly which causes the agitator to move back and forth. They are usually made of plastic and get worn or break. This might be what you are replacing. It's not clear as to what parts they gave you. Good Luck
