What exactly are you working on. Are you wanting to know how to install a HEI distributor into a 1970's or 1980's small block chevy? Just wondering, it says 2007 cobalt?

I have a 72 chevelle with a 350 ci , I put an hei distrubitor in it but now my alt wont charge and its brand new what should I do...

The HEI has nothing to do with the alternator

The HEI needs battery voltage, not the resistor,
that was there for the point ignition distributor

Unless you moved wires around to feed the HEI,
you just diagnose the alternator as usual

New doesn't mean it works
Have to know how to test it

I have a 1985 Chevy 350 with an ac delco hei distributor and i have the plug wires crossed up somewhere. I need a diagram to show the correct plug wire placement please. Thanks

This should do it.
You can also do an internet search for a standard 350 Chevy engine.
The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
The order is the same for engines from the mid 1990s back to the late 1970s.

Hi!!
Here are the two engine configurations WITH AND WITHOUT HEI SYSTEM, they both have the firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and the distributor ROTATES CLOCKWISE.

Wiring for a small block 350

need to know if its a HEI cap and rotor or not. HEI caps have the coil built into them , an all in one ignition as compared to a external cylindrical coil.
you need to know that. either the distributor cap is a huge hurken thing (HEI) or it has an external coil somewhere or the cap has a ninth distributor hole in the middle of the cap to put a coil. wire.
after you figure out which one it is then you have to either go to www.autozone.com and study chevy wiring or buy a haynes manual for the similar vintage engine. for the external coil I would try a chilton manual for a chev truck before 1972. for HEI anytime thereafter. I may be off by a few years on the age of the engine. but hopefully you got an idea of what to do, or just google chev engine wiring? and study away.
good luck

Wire position for 75 Chevy 350 HEI on the

Order is 18436572. Put the timing mark on the crank at 0 and the rotor should be pointing either to the firewall or the front of the engine. If at the wall, turn the crank one more time and it is now pointing at the #1 wire position on the distributor.
left side cylinders are 1357 right, 2468 wire order is in the direction the rotor turns when cranking.

My 1997 chev sub. 1500 2wd starts fine. but

Your cap is cracked on your distributor....if you have a cap/points/rotor.

Condensation is building up in the cap.

Let me know what you have.

Size of motor and if you ahve HEI.

Wiring an hei distributor

You shouldn't need a spark box because thee coil is located in the dist. cap. You need to run a 12v switched power source to the side of the dist. cap that is marked dist. if it isn't maked it is the term. that is on the front right of the conector pad. the one on the left is for hooking up a tach.

What is the distributor timing mark for 89 chevy

Is the vacuum hose removed from the dist when the timing is being checked?
Are you connected to the first plug wire (closest to the rad) on the drivers side?
If this is being done.....remove the cap and rotor and check the springs on the mechanical advance, the advance should be tight to the shaft and springs tight.
I would set the base timing on this set up .....at idle speed...... at between 5 and 10 before TDC.

Remember......timing marks on modified engines are not always accurate. Parts from this year and that year put together.
