Spin cycle not working properly

My Maytag Ensignia has been making a lot of noise during the spin cycle for the past couple of weeks. Now today, it was unable to wring the water from the clothes and it finished with them still dripping wet. Does this sound like a easily and cheaply fixable problem? It is only 2 1/2 years old.

It no longer is making the sound, and I don't think the drum is spinning any more at all.

Thanks for the help. We don't have an extended warranty and will probably just look for a new washer rather than spend a lot of money on this.

On the transmission there are two shift arms. One shift arm controls the agitator and the other shifts to spin the cloths. If the washer has been making a "clicking" sound when it trys to spin, the solenoid that shifts the spin shift arm is not catching and the drum will not spin. The other possibility is the spin clutch is slipping and make a "grinding/ratcheting" sound. Neither, unfortunately are inexpensive to fix.
If you can describe the sound and when it occurs, I might be able to get closer.
Let me know.

Well, it would have to be either the transmission or the spin clutch at the bottom of the drum. Without actually seeing it, that would be my guess as they are the only two components that directly affect the spin cycle. Either of which is expensive to fix.

There is always the slight possibility the solenoid has gone bad, it is the one that shifts the transmission to spin.

You didn't have an extended warranty by chance?

    Sorry,

    Regards,

Why does the Drum spin erratic even without clothes in it?

might be a warped spin basket or the dampers could need to be replaced. could even be a bad spin bearing. if it was bearing, normally would be associated with a loud noise during the spin cycle though.

If it's a roaring noise, the tub bearing is probably wearing out. Spin the tub a little with your hand, if you hear a little of the roar, that's it.

My Maytag Ensignia is filling with water then stopping. If I manually move it through the cycle it does nothing. Won't spin or drain. There is no noise when it goes to the agitate or spin cycle (as if it...

f the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. You will need a putty knife to release the clips located of the front corners of the of the lid. If you look along the seam of the top and the front panel, just near the corners, you will see them. Just push in on the clips and lift the top to access the switch. Here is a link to the part.

Maytag ensignia makes a great deal of noise during rinse cycle

"If you dont have a noisy spin cycle and the noise you hear is only on the rince cycle, dont be worried, as this is totally normal. Water sprays onto the drum while the spin cycle is in progress and rewets the clothes to allow any existing soap to be desolved. This noise is in effect the water hitting the drum during the rince part of the cycle.

Loud squealing noise during spin cycle.

Please keep in mind, I'm attempting to diagnose your unit without being there and with very little information.
From my experience, I would think you have a bad belt. They get stretched over time and start squealing in the spin cycle. If you don't change it, it will make a noise in every cycle until it comes off.
NOTE.
When changing belt. Check and be sure the pulleys have no play on their shafts. They also go bad. It's better to fix it all now than one to have to repair four or five times this year. Good luck!

Sounds like the water pump is going out on it. The part runs about $80 and should only take about 45 minutes to install.

Spin cycle

Did it make this noise just when it stopped spinning.  Just for a couple seconds?  If so,  it's only brake noise and not a concern.  If it does this all during spin you probably have a bad tub bearing.  Is it a roaring noise?  This is what the bearing will sound like.
