1996 Honda Odyssey engine cooling fan stays on.

Assuming yours is the V6 engine there is most likely 4 on that vehicle. They are usually mounted before and after the Catalytic converter, (Cat), so there will be 2 in each side of the exhaust system. The O2 sensors closest to the engine are often mounted in the actual exhaust manifold or very near to it. The sensors furthest from the engine are usually underneath the vehicle. Which one are you trying to find?

The engine cooling fan comes on when the engine temp. reaches around 180 degrees F , The air con fan comes on with the air con switch.

just stop the vehicle and start it stationary and accelerate chk out the coolent boiled out or not if it will than it needs head work

Check all fuses first. if the fuses are okay, disconnect the engine cooling fan connector and using jumper wires, connect the fan motor directly to the battery and ground. If the fan still doesn't work, replace it. If the fan does work, its relay may be faulty. Check in the engine compartment fuse box for the cooling fan relays. Try switching the cooling fan relays and see if the engine fan comes on and the a/c condensor fan stops working. If so, the engine cooling fan relay is faulty. If the engine fan still doesn't come on with a good relay, then check the engine temperature switch located at the passenger end of the front cylinder head. It is supposed to switch (have continuity) when the engine temperature reaches 205 deg F. You can remove the switch and put it in a pot of close to boiling water (212 deg F). If it doesn't have continuity at that temperature, it is defective.

If you run the vehicle with an inoperable radiator cooling fan you will overheat and destroy the engine. You will just make the problem even worse by running the aircon. The car should not be driven with an inoperable cooling fan.

A thermostat should be re-installed in the engine's cooling system and a new cooling fan installed.

If you have been running the vehicle with this overheat condition for some time you may well have already damaged the engine, the first sign of which may well be a blown head gasket and a damaged engine head.

If you damage the engine from overheating, repair costs can easily exceed the market value of this 1996 model car.

1st refill the radiator and overflow bottle. Start up the Honda. You should have a bleeder bolt on top of the engine. You need to open this bleeder to remove any air in the cooling system. Wait until the engine is warming up, open bleeder and when no air is evident, close it. There are a number of reasons it may have overheated, so carefully watch the temp gauge. If it starts to rise out of the normal range, check to see if the cooling fan is kicking on. If it isn't, you may have a faulty switch that should be signaling the fan to go on as the temp goes up (or possibly a defective fan motor). Check for leaks also. Have you noticed any prior to this problem? If the fan is operating as it should, air is out of the system, you could check the thermostat. Remove, place in a pot of boiling water. The t-stat should open rather quickly. If it is defective, it will remain closed, and could cause the overheating problem (it can also stick open, not allowing the car to reach operating temp, but that's not the problem).So, hope this helps figure it out, there are other things (radiator plugged up w/ rust and sediment), broken belt, so the water pump isn't spinning, etc Good luck, let me know what you find.

you have to replace the resistor under the passenger side dash. the wires coming from the blower motor runs to it. if it is back the module wont let the a/c work. common problem. easy fix

yes, replacing the thermostat is definately the first thing i would do
